i have to admit i wasn't very impressed with what i had heard
from tommy sparks on myspace but i end up enjoying them
live as much as the stars of the night, friendly fires, who
played a great set which even included a new song ! !
on a curious note, i met and had a wee chat with udo
dirkschneider from 80's band accept (nowadays ibiza
ressie)..... that's one of the great things week after
week, you never know who you gonna bump into.
quick stop at subway for a munch and off to
the after party (eden was getting really
busy by the time i left and i reckon this
will be one of the most successful
parties of the summer).....
So, we're coming to the end of the second week of Ibiza Rocks and what a week it was with Friendly Fires and Tommy Sparks both turning in personal bests to electrify the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.
Friendly Fires found their rightful home during the set on Tuesday night, their blend of electro-funk was made for the White Isle.
Check out some pictures of the sets below:
Post-show, we filmed the band experiencing their first ever Balaeric sunset, look out for the video coming soon on ibizarocks.com.
The next few weeks are going to be absolutely massive, first up are The Kooks and The King Blues - which is our biggest pre-sale show in Ibiza Rocks history and sees the Kooks return after they first played for us in 2005 - unsigned!!
On the same night Reclaim the Dancefloor! presents Josh Wink, the mighty Aeroplane (Remixer du jour of Friendly Fires, Grace Jones), Brodinski and Daisy Heartbreaker presents High Voltage. All at Eden from midnight and of course all advance tix include free entry before 0130. See you on the floor...
And we still have Keane, Zane Lowe, Groove Armada and Pendulum to come in July alone!
you know it's gonna be a big night when, before the doors have
opened, there's already a massive queue outside. as expected
having the kooks, the busiest gig so far with almost 2.700
people and the vip sold-out. like last year with cage the
elephant (who supported the streets), this week there
was a support band i like more than the headliners:
the king blues..... what a band and what a concert
(my fave so far). they played songs from their
two albums plus bonkers which they recently
covered for radio 1. just seeing people's
reaction to this song i could imagine
how it will be like in august when
dizzee rascal himself sing it
(the place will go, literally,
bonkers). actually, it felt
like august..... it was
that busy. absolutely
brilliant night ! !
The Kooks and King Blues were responsible for the busiest night we've ever had at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. The Kook's glimmering arsenal of insanely catchy pop nuggets proving the perfect foil to King Blues' swaggering folk-rock reggae.
Like we said. Wow.
In fact if it weren't for the forthcoming iceberg-sized roadblock that is the Calvin Harris show next week, we'd be sorely tempted to pack up and go home, confident that we'd seen the best the season had to offer.
But when the man behind the genre-straddling uber-hit 'Acceptable In The 80s' is coming to your town it's best to leave any assumptions well off to the side. And when he's supported by the awesome Kissy Sell Out it's best to flush them from your mind entirely.

i thought it would be more quiet this time after last week's epic night..... wrong: it was even busier (2.900 people) and the rising scottish star calvin harris
received one of the most enthusiastic responses from the audience
ever seen at the hotel. on a curious note, kissy sellout covered
unbelievable by emf. this is getting better and better and it has
just started. oh, btw: to avoid disappointments only purchase
tickets from reputable sellers (like your fave ibiza website).
sadly various fake tickets were found last night.....
Last night electrosynth maestro Clavin Harris came to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel and, as predicted, it was the biggest roadblock since Obama's inauguration.
From the moment he kicked off with 'Girls', through the uber-smash 'Acceptable In The 80s' and new single 'Ready For The Weekend' the place was in an uproar with each party starting anthem started a new party so by the time Calvin stepped up to deliver the number one anthem 'I'm Not Alone' there were about seven or eight parties going on at the same time and involving each and every member of the crowd simultaneously.
Last week Calvin Harris ruled the sunkissed Ibiza Rocks Hotel with his infectious electro-disco, next Tuesday Keane will be packing their sky-kissing anthems and hitting the white island sand themselves.
Where else could this happen people? Where else but Ibiza Rocks.
Calvin Harris was the asteroid-sized roadblock that we all expected - check out the shots below.
Joining the mighty Keane on July 14 will be Golden Silvers and Zane Lowe, and, remember, your advanced ticket includes entrance to Reclaim The Dancefloor at Eden, which features Zane Lowe, Chase & Status, Sinden and Rusko.

keane in ibiza at last..... the most anticipated concert and the
one that attracted more locals (the band is huge in spain).
the best atmosphere so far and sing-a-long all through the
set (which included a cover of queen's under pressure).
i loved the fact jesse had a sticker of my beloved melvins
on his bass..... a guy with good taste, no doubt ! !
a night to remember and, for many, the concert of
the summer. btw, since last night theres free
bus afterwards to bar m for the pre-party
of reclaim the dancefloor.....
Keane brought the crowds on Tuesday night with a hit-heavy debut set at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.
With a big turnout from the locals plus a lot of fans that had flown in from abroad the night was well and truly rocked.
Earlier on, the hottest, newest 'ones to watch' Golden Silvers warmed us up with an amazing set while atmosphere-cranking DJ support came from Radio 1's Zane Lowe.

Tomorrow will be the Ibiza Rocks halfway house as we reach show 6 out of 13 courtesy of the mighty Groove Armada (fresh from their own Lovebox set), joined by the Filthy Dukes.
Then next week (Tues 28th) it's the turn of Ibiza Rocks veterans Pendulum, who'll be swinging by the Ibiza Rocks Hotel to treat the white island to another show - their closing party set was a big, big highlight of 08.
The legendary Groove Armada invaded the Ibiza Rocks Hotel this Tuesday and left partygoers drenched in light, sound and sweat.
The heaving crowds were well and truly warmed up by young pretenders Filthy Dukes, with their uniquely stylish synth-pop racket, but nothing could truly prepare us for the awesome might of the grand masters, Groove Armada.
To share in the evening's good times click here and check out amazing pics of both bands'sets.
Next week sees us preparing for the arrival of the mighty Pendulum. The earth-shaking antipodean beat machine touches down on the island next Tuesday (July 28th). Support from the very cool South Central. You have been warned.
