Wisdom Tooth

I just got mine removed. I am still waiting for the numbness to disappear, and the pain to really kick in. Any important thing(s) that I should know?

It doesn't hurt that bad. Oh, and sometimes little gnomes will come out of your tooth hole to steal things, so be weary, and take lots of vicodin.

that is all.

Throw back those vicodin and ENJOY LOLOLOL OH and rinse gently so there will be no food caught underneath the stitches. But the vicodin is the best part and if you have any leftover, you have my phone number ;) :D (yes, I love them...they are my VICE)

Thanks folks. Anjali, I will keep that in mind. I have got myself a few movies, two boxes of ice cream and lots of protein shakes.

Wine is good with those vicodin as well :D ;) . What do you think I take when I go out??? BUT my one warning is: DON'T SMOKE. That will give you a dry socket and then the vicodin or anything else isn't fun at ALL. Dry sockets are HELL

It is when the empty socket does not heal (doesn't grow any protective skin or something) and reveals your jaw bone and all the nerves down there. I had one once and I was in SO MUCH pain that even vicodin didn't make me happy  :x

Thanks for the info, Anjali. Even though I have quit ciggies for a while it is always good to be well informed. By the way, Vicodin is amazing.

I've only had one wisdom tooth removed and it was a nightmare. Local anesthetic did crap-all as the dentist had to rock the tooth back and forth for half an hour in order to stand it upright and then yank it out. I've never known such pain in my life. Couldn't eat for a week, and no decent pain killer perscription. :x

Anyway, have fun when the numbness wears off, LB

Yeah, I had all 4 of mine out with a local- worst thing in the world, all those popping and squelching noises. The two I had out on the left (when I was 15) left bruising and swelling that took a fortnight to go down. I have killer cheekbones now though! 8)

Well last night was not too bad. I had only one pill of Vicodin the entire day, and that was only at the beginning, when the numbness wore off. I decided to weather out the pain au natural after that, and it has not been bad. I will say though that I must have swallowed a lot of blood in the past 24 hours as I get that terrible taste in my mouth quite often.

Morbyd, I had the same experience as you did. I took out only one tooth, and it took the dentist about 75 minutes, which he said that is very long. I have been surviving on Cambell's soup, Ben & Jerry and my protein shakes. I will start taking solids starting tomorrow.

Vicodin!?! You lucky buggers, do doctors just throw them at you in the States then?!? 8O :D

Best reliever of dental pain is Dicofenac Sodium btw if you can get hold of some ;)

I do not know if they throw it at us, but it did not seem that it was that difficult to get. It was my first time ever taking a pain killer, and going to get prescriptions in the US.

You expect to eat solid food on the 2nd day? If you can chew that much, it'd be a miracle. I was eating mushy food for a week when I had that one taken out :?

Sorry, my definition of solids included mushy foods. In other words, "solids" are everything that is not like chicken broth or ice cream. I am already getting sick of ice cream :x . At least I can get variety when it comes to soups.

My doctor over here in L.A. is a complete vicodin pusher...hence my admitted addiction. ;) When I went to Europe I thought it would be easy to get vicodin over there but no one had heard of it! I'm on vicodin as we speak... 8)

LAGUNA: You have any left overs? Save them so when we meet for drinks we can throw back the vics! and you can help a poor PhD student who needs a medicated moment??? (wow...I am such a little addict!) :P By the way, how are you feeling?

I am feeling quite well, thank you. I still feel a bit of a bump in my left cheek, but other than that I am OK. Over the past two days, I have drank so much water that there can be absolutely no reason why I could get any dry socket. Out of all the Vicodin pills that I got, I only used one. I must say that I am quite proud about that. I decided to use the principles of that I am learning in Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho and Systema to deal with the situation, and it has paid of very well.

Well, you are a better person than me. I love vicodin. And I am not ashamed to admit it. It makes me have energy to do all the work that I do. It makes me chatty. It makes me happy. I am just one of those people that vicodin just connects to :D :P

Yeah, if you were going to get a dry socket you would have had one by now. Dental work just SUCKS. But they make up for it by being vicodin-happy in their perscriptions.
