Why do clubs/promoters plan nights...

That conflict with same genre nights in Ibiza?

Just thinking about a few examples

Eden - booked a new house night last year - lines up against Pure Pacha
Xtravaganza - back at Privilege in direct competition with Cream

Why not book the promoter for a night that makes it the main location for that genre on that night?

:?

In some ways though eden doesn't necessarily conflict with other clubs outside of san antonio anyway - I can't imagine that more than 1/3 of edens clubbers are staying outside of san antonio and most of the rest of em are probably just lured in by club girls and flyerers.

I must say, the one clash that always got me, was the DC10/Cocoon one.

I appreciate the two don't necessarily cross exactly, though it's not often anything more than a few wind down Coronas in Es Vive is all I can muster after going flat out at DC10.

They've got to try and second guess when other nights will be when they're planning their schedules. Comments on Eden vs other clubs are relevant too.

If I was programming Eden I'd trying and put my most popular genre with the youngest end of the market on a Sunday and Thurday. San holidaymakers are predominantly week or two week package deals flying in on Wednesday or Saturday. I'd guess they go crazy when they get there and run out of money toward the back end of their trip. Presumably they land late Saturday night, early Sunday morning and they've got cash to spend on Judgement Sundays the next night, for example.

Admittedly mid-season there probably so much custom they'd be rammed anyway, but these things must make a difference in when punters are thinner on the ground.

the one that puzzles me is Xtravaganza @ Privilege

Privilege have had a couple of quieter years with less known promoter nights
So they restart a trance party on the same night as the biggest in the island!

I think its a case of go up against your rival's big night to try and claw back some of the prestige and numbers from the night. Still it won't work though, i'm a big fan of Xtravaganza from a few years back when they put out some great releases but they have nowhere near the pulling power of Cream. Maybe they should have put it on Wednesday or Friday instead.

Two trance nights on tuesday:

Armada @ Amnesia vs Gatecrashers classics @ Eden

See, that i can understand as they are going for 2 different markets
armada - new trance music
gatecrasher - old trance with an eye to the san an crowd thats not so much "into the music"

my problem last year was with cream vs viva, as it put me and my mates tastes completely against one another. we said before we went we didnt mind going solo to the respective nights, but in the end im glad i went to cream, even though it meant missing out on a great line-up at space. the crowd at cream, contrary to reports, was very friendly and down to earth.

i suppose the line-ups would make your mind up for you. eden will probably always be busy in the peak months due to its location.

that was one of my gripes about tuesday night on where we should go. I both love the line up at GC Classics, but Armada nights looks like a happening party too..

Damn I hate choosing.

Agree with you on this one. I usually go to Cream so when I heard Xtravaganza were back on the island this year I was like :p then I heard it was on Thursdays :?

Amnesia gets way too busy and Cream has been a hit or a miss for me depending on the line up especially in the back room.

So Xtravaganza's won me over this time - will be there a week on Thursday8)
