Why cant young adults spell properly anymore?

Ok, we all make mistakes when typing quickly but there's no excuse for deliberately missing out letters or completely changing how word are spelt :roll:

SO MANY people on this forum and others do it now :evil:

I mean

stil
thanx
comin
goin
gettin
hav
wot
wen

and so on......

If you can't be bothered to write properly then people will not be bothered to read your childish squibble. For the sake of typing another letter which takes less than a second what is the point of not typing it?

I'm liking your stand. I'm someone who can't rest properly if they see bad spelling and grammar in print. Some people may call it being anally retentive, I call it 'being smug in my refined English language knowledge'. ;)
 
I've got no problem with people mispelling long/uncommon words or accidently making a boo-boo but EVERYONE knows how to spell words like the ones i listed above, it's just pure laziness.
 
agreed. Like N8 says if you cannot be bothered to spell words correctly, then others wont bother to read your posts. Can the people who do type like this please stop :)

I totally agree with you N8 ! I despair of people's spelling sometimes !!

* Please note .. my children are excellent spellers ! :D

I agree on the spelling/grammar thing though it is really annoying, especially when people do that horrible text talk :twisted:
 
It causes us, non native speakers, some trouble to understand exactly what you might be trying to say. For example, the enormous amount of mistakes made by people when using 'they're' and 'their' and 'there'. If you use thr for the three of them, you can never be wrong...

:D .... I was feeling in flippant mood earlier........ forget it doesnt translate sometimes....
 
if u can understand what it says then i dont really see the problem....but on the other hand people of other nationalities would have trouble dicefering the posts,im guilty of it in the past but have now tryed to stop it,its all because of mobile phones txt in my opinion....it doesnt mean you cant spell......i had one of the best spelling grades in my year at school and still used to write in so called 'youth' text on the internet and texts

Hey, we need someone to blame. Someone needs to be the scapegoat. It is only natural and healthy to put off responsibility that is obviously yours onto another person/group. :roll:

In all actuality, it's noone's fault. It's called progress. I may pick on people for spelling things wrong for the purpose of making them shorter but it's the evolution of the English language as we know it. The English language is an evolving one. It started out with the ancient languages, then it got mixed with Latin, French, German and tons of others until it became what it is today. Now, instead of mixing the language with others, we adapt the English language with abbreviations/symbols- jk, ;-), lol, brb, 2nite, b4, ivu- the list is endless. This is only progression, people.
