Not even got close to figuring out how to mix yet, but even from early mucking about on it, Im amazed at how good this program is. Had it before, and stupidly didnt follow any tutorials, and binned it for easier to use software. But ive been progressing through the tutorials every night (sometimes at a slow pace cause I LOVE some of the bleepy noises those sample projects make 8) ) and every time I uncover something else im like WOOOOOO.....

Bring on xmas when I get my new laptop, Oxygen 8 controller and other bits and bobs... Plan is to at least know the layout of Ableton etc. by then so I can start making music when I get all my new gear...

Ifg you haven't even tried it yet, go to ableton.com and download the demo, then try working through the tutorials. Great fun!

what about losing any hands on feel? i mean I'd like to give ableton a shot but im scared i'd like it too much. might give the demo a go though.

Bought it a coupla months ago. I've got a 1hr 14min tough house DJ set that I've put together to gain experience on it (available for download shortly). Thing is, once you get involved in it then beatmatching (which some DJs think is the be all, end all of DJing) starts to take a backseat and creativity starts to take control. I've watched Sasha using it live at Shindig, Newcastle a few weeks ago. Very impressive. The boundaries of DJ, music producer and artist start to blur. The music is being created in front of the audience 'live'.

One thing I have to say tho, for general DJing down the local pub/club, this is not the tool. It is more suited to the specialist DJ like the big names that used to turn up with a record case with 100 records. I have been active on the Abelton Forum and discovered that there are a lot of DJs in the USA that use it and turn up to a club gig with a MIDI Controller and a laptop full of hundreds of clips (samples, loops & effects) and then create the music 'on the fly'. Its sort of like turning up with a blank canvas and then painting a picture.

For my money, this program takes DJing, producing, creating to the next level.
