i sound sound stupid but i've never eaten it and never really heard of it until i came on here, what is in it? is it fattening?

the recipe varies from restaurant to restaurant, but generally it contains rice, chicken and seafood.

and its yum.

I don't think it is that fattening, but it is very hard not to eat tons of it, cause it comes in a huuuuge dish!

Originally from Valencia, my favourite one is fish paella. It's rice and seafood or meat.

Nothing beats a paella with a cold beer in front of the sea 8)

8) Good!!! :D I'm hungry now!

basically rice, saffron in a good one, prawns, fish stock, chicken/rabbit, white wine, peppers, onion, mussels, olive oil, peas, tomatoes and seasoning plus a hundred and one variations

There're many ways to do a paella. The most know are seafood paella, chicken paella. I bet no one of you have tried paella of codfish and cauliflower typical at Easter. ;)

Paella is actually the name in our local language of any frying pan, big or small (sartén in Castilian), so the name of the food comes from the container.

The best ones are done along the coast of Valencia, for sure. The water hardness has a lot to do with it.

Go & eat it a proper diner/restaurant whereby its likely to be fresh ingredients & its beautiful.

Just think of a big wok with saffron/black rice & meat/seafood. Never mind fattening if its fresh & cooked properly its good fodder for a long nights clubbing. ;)

It is my mission to try one this year when we go back. I've been saying I'll try one for the last 2 years but never managed it. This year I will.

If you want to try it this year, go to Coastline. Best Paella ever, but it's a HUGE HUGE portion of it :)

Had one at LaBrasa a couple of years ago.

We had to wait a long time cos it was busy and drank about 3/4 jugs of Sangria first

Don't you just love stuffing your face when you're pissed :P
