Weekend Reports!

Alright people. Happy Monday to everyone.
I suppose some are still making their ways back from Sonar (jealous!) but I had a pretty fun weekend so:

Thursday - A friend's birthday dinner, which led to ill-advised post-dinner drinks at Soho Rooms. Managed to avoid being dragged onwards to the next club

Friday - Busy but amazing night! Happy hour sunset drinks on the rooftop terrace at Krysha Mira. Then an outdoor concert and album presentation by a friend's rock band at Modus Cafe. At midnight, headed over to Soho Rooms for drinks and a little dancing on their rooftop terrace.

Arrived at Arma around 2am for an AMAZING party. Only caught the tail end of Moonbotica's set, but then Etienne de Crecy came on for a "live" performance which involved mixing and loops and such, but also one of the most amazing light shows I've seen during a DJ set  :D 8) He was in standing in the middle square of a 3-story, 9-cube construction up on stage, with this light show going on all around him. Great stuff! :D Then Mr C came on and absolutely rocked the place :D :D :D

The crowd had thinned out by the time Mr C finished around 6 so over to Krysha Mira for afters with visiting German DJ Sebo K on the decks. Krysha was totally rocking as well. One of the best parties I've seen there in ages. Many a tail feather shaken.

Saturday - Woke up in the afternoon, laid around the house for a bit, then took a nap  Went to a night at the museum-type event at an art gallery, then went to Crisis Genre to see my friend's band yet again (pt 2 of their album release), then went to an open air party a mate of mine organized in a courtyard in the middle of town :D Not sure how he pulled it off (fending off neighbors and police) but it was loud and pumping until nearly 5am. Decided to call it a night afterwards.

Sunday - Spent the late afternoon/evening doing household and grocery shopping. Watched The Hangover, which I quite enjoyed.

:lol: As usual, you put me to shame with my weekend report....

Fri: well earned few pints out with friends - to get over the shock / horror of the past couple of weeks.... home by 11 :oops::oops:

Sat: At friends house for wine and nibbles all afternoon - had a right good old girlie catch up - such fun!!!

Sun: did nothing but chill with Phil in the garden reading all day (not one of my better plans to get a quick 40 winks whilst in the garden. Fell asleep with my book on my chest and I am now left with a perfect book shaped non tanned bit....:spank::spank::spank:

Afternoon all. Went to the lakes camping. Found my new fave lake ever ever, Wastwater.

El missus is off to Africa in a couple of weeks so I am going to take the bike, hire a kayak and have a proper solitary, living of berries kind of few days.

As an aside the British Lions have not even been mentioned on here. Anyone see the game - amazing, we can do em next weekend.

Sat in a dark room and contemplated my existence for 48 hours. Perhaps overdid it as I'm now having to wear sunglasses @ work. The bright lights are too much.

Morbyd, I hope your sunday involved watching US v Egypt, thats if you had given them any hope of qualifying;)

Went to Cable on saturday. First time and really enjoyed it. Its quite a dark and "dirty" sort of club, reminded me in bits of Turnmills. Musically it was good, Bugged Out usually is, and that club was perfect for that techno / electro sound. Crowd was very friendly and probably the less chavvy ive seen in London for a long time.

Will be going again if the music is to my taste, which will probably only Bugged Out again

I remembered it was on and tuned in.... just at the closing whistle!
(I hadn't given us a chance, to be honest, but still would have watched had I remembered earlier)

However, I am very pleased (and pleasantly surprised) with the result. I've booked a table at my regular football-watching haunt for the semifinal tomorrow. Probably my last time there as the bar is connected to a casino (for sports betting) and all casinos in Moscow have to shut down on 1 July :(

Friday - lunch in the afternoon with my old man, wedding reception in the evening, twas pretty good. Bride looked cracking. Few z list footballers there including Stevie Gerrard's cousin who was actually nice bloke.

Saturday - felt a bit Tom dick after the night before so took it easy in the morning. For some reason I offered to do the food shopping and so off me and my boy trotted to Sainsburys. £75 later we had loads of ice cream, fruit, banoffe pie and other cakes, a cucumber, loads of magazines and papers, a pretend snake, a cooked gammon shank, fruit shoots, a pineapple, cheese, dora the explorer toy, a transformer toy, some chicken, scotch egg and couple of bits for dinner for the week! Missus wasn't impressed and had to go out and do another shop! I thought we done quite well. Anyway me and the heir to the throne are banned from doing the food shopping. Evening time had a bit of sesh indoors and finally conked out 1o mins before i had the footsteps of the kids getting up!

Sunday - beaten up for roughly 4 hours by the kids before i took them to the park to wear themselves out rather than use me as climbing frame/bouncey castle/punchbag. It worked. All came back from the park and everyone had 3 hour nap. Got up, had nice fathers day lunch and opened up my prezzies! Evening watched Mongol and that was that.

Was in Barcelona from Thursday onwards. Brief rundown:

- Thursday night went along to Kanna Beach for Luciano and Loco Dice. Was a bit pissed off at the COMPLETE LACK OF ORGANISATION, folk with and without tickets in the one queue, which led to a human crush the like of which i've never experienced, and having consumed something a little odd, shall we say, and expecting the full brunt of that any minute, it was decided that we'd be better off going elsewhere to find some fun rather than die. €40 down the toilet, 8 hours of madness around the Ramblas and Placa Real.

- Friday, woke up and had a bit of a nightmare as everyone had gone out and my phone was dead and I had no adaptor any more. Had to brave the sunshine and find one, only for it not to work, and then had to repeat the process to find a mobile shop with a suitable 2-pronged charger. Turned on my phone to a shi.t ton of messages directing me to the shopping centre Maremagnum, at the port. A bit like any Town Centre shopping centre, except that it was an amazing building, with amazing views and amazing weather. Found my way up to where the party was happening, half empty but good fun nonetheless. Music was ace (Olly will come in here and disagree) - got super pished on the super strength vodka limons. You didn't really feel like you were in a shopping centre until you had to locate the karzi, through a door and out into the main part of the shopping centre, with people cutting about with bags of expensive clothes, shoes and perfume etc. Not one of my crowd can remember even leaving the place. All tucked up in bed by about 9pm.

Saturday - Went along to a 'party' on the 6th floor roof terrace of the Hotel Me, which I was advised was one of the sw.ankier joints in Barcelona. The crowd didn't disappoint, it felt like we had walked into a CD cover photo shoot. Was more of a sit down and chat amongst yourselves kind of affair, with few shapes being thrown, but it was a nice experience anyway. After my trio served our roles as the token ugly b@stards, we headed off for a massive walk back to the Ramblas, stopping off for Tapas, and got ourselves together for the Resident Advisor party at Boulevard Culture Club on Las Ramblas. Caught the last half hour of Jus-Ed, who was disappointing. Trainwrecks galore, and lots of chat over the records. The last minute addition to the bill, Sound Stream, was great. Unfortunately he only played for an hour. The reason we were all there in the first place, Akufen, came on and killed the vibe with 20 minutes of Hip Hop and R'n'B. By the time he got the place moving again, it was his time to finish also!! Bit of a disappointment. I carried on regardless and rolled in around 6am a little worse for wear.

Sunday- Got up a little later than I hoped and we decided to jump on a tourist bus round the city. Had hoped to get another bus later but they finished at 8, so after some tapas we decked it for a few hours. Woke up later not really in the mood to go out to the Secret Sundaze party at La Terraza, but I'm glad we did. My mates scored some free passes off a Scottish crowd (as I dived about in the bushes taking a leak). Easily one of the coolest venues I've ever been to. Music was ace also, as you'd expect.

Monday - well, get back to the apartment, no sleep, straight to the shower and had to fly home via Newcastle. Basically, it took us 14 hours to get back to Dundee. I had to extend my holiday to recover today!

Lots of good memories, lots of bizarre memories, amazing time spent with friends, probably ate better than I ever do on holiday, there was as much emphasis on finding nice grub and nice bars as there was on finding parties. Pretty sure I'll be back next year, might return sooner to do more exploring.

the music at maremagnum was sheite (loved the bits you edited out too  )

secret sundaze @ la terraza was wicked - dixon = BOSS DJ house of house - rushing in paradise remix 8) probably one of his own

akufen - terrible

luke solomun @ rekids party = brilliant as was Baby G upstairs

strangely, hardly any gear all weekend - a smoke on the thursday, some mud and later amphetamine-fuelled hell on the saturday and that was about it. Nobody was selling.. - scare stories about undercovers last year might've put the frighteners on folk..

Hotel ME was very funny (like el fat one said) we were poseur central and then there was about 100 ugly fukkers all sat on sunbeds around us.

didn't bother with any official sonar in the end. the cost/distance/patchy lineups didn't sell it to me.

wicked weather, food, vibe about the place. Barcelona is always magical.

Being back at work today is DARK....

Friday - last day of term at the language school I work in - weird feeling walking out knowing I won't be back til October. Had a little gathering at my place to welcome various visitors to Barcelona, then went to Sonar. Was a fiasco getting in - really badly organised with lots of pushing and shoving (dunno why it was so bad - was fine the next night). Grace Jones was on stage when we arrived doing some random warbling, strutting round, pole dancing, shouting things in Spanish then going '****, I need a drink!'. Really enjoyed 'Pull up to the bumper', 'Love is the drug' and 'Slave to the Rhythm' (she hula-hooped all through this number). LCD Soundsystem played lots of disco which I enjoyed, then we saw a bit of Richie Hawtin and went out to the outside stage for the last part of Crookers, which was really fun.

Saturday - met up with friends for some outdoor drinking, then went into Sonar Day. Weren't really up for squashing into the packed out main tent, so mostly sat outside on the fake grass, people watching. Went for dinner, then hit Sonar Night again. Jeff Mills was good and we loved Deadmaus, but the best bit was after the sun came up and Carl Craig was playing the outside stage. Amazing atmosphere. :p

Sunday - slept then went to the Secretsundaze party which was brilliant. Will definitely go back to La Terrazza.

Monday - slept all day then crawled out for dinner.

Tuesday - more sleep. Heading out for Sant Joan beach parties later.
