for the last week i have had really bad tooth ache i went to the dentist and they gave me and xray soem antibiotics and sent me on my way and charged me £45 for the privelage.

i had to go to the emergency nhs dentist at the hospital they again xrayed it put some gel stuff on it and charged me 9.75( a lot cheaper)

the xray at the hospital shows that the reson i got toothache is because the root of on of my tooth is decaying and requires either root canal surgery and extraction.

what is the best way extraction is obvioulsye taking it out not sure how mch this hurts but what is root canal ??

also is it only local anasthetic they use ?? ( hope so)

sorry bout the questions im a little panicky

Thanx guys

Root canal work is EXPENSIVE.

Rip it out.

In the meen time crush an anadin up and rub it on the tooth in question (Crush n Rub).

Tastes like shite but works a treat (my ex was a dental nurse)

Root Canal - Expensive and sore!

I was unfortunate to have 3 teeth removed last year and had to go to a Maxillo-Facial Surgery Center - £2500 (Picked up by health insurance)

No pain during as I was sedated (£140 of the £2500)
Afterwards, just had to be very careful eating for a couple of weeks.

Will be having 3 implants next year - No more trouble...

Best advise - get them sorted soon....

The root canal is basically the nerve tissue that runs down the middle of the tooth.

Dentists normally won't do general anesthetics any more so yes, you will probably get a local anesthetic.

Root canal's when they work on the root of the tooth and basically extract the nerves and decayeed area of the tooth/teeth. Replace them and then fill the tooth again. Prob mean two visits to the dentist. Generally done under local and yes it does hurt but not excruciating....

root canal is expensive and painful, and not 100% successful.

depending on the position of the tooth (ie is it in your smile line) I would opt for an extraction, that way in 6mths if you so wished you could get a bridge, or if it's tucked away at the back, just leave it. Most dentists will remove a tooth on the NHS at a cost of aropund £70. My Girlfriend had a wisdom tooth pulled recently and they gave her intra-veinous valium, and she didnt feel a thing ;)

i gotta go private so root canal will cost me muchos ££££

just gunna opt to have it pulled it a mooller right at the back
next to my wisdom tooth

Good plan!

I got my second wisdom tooth extracted only last week due to decay (funnilly enough I only noticed it in Ibiza after it chipped when I ate some paella) and it was fine. The injection is the only slightly unpleasant part and I'm positive you'll feel far better once it's out.

I need to have some dentistry work done, im in the same position, route canal or extracted. Thing is im so afraid of needles ive not been :?

You really need to go. The problem won't go away by itself and you're just making it worse.

When my first wisdom tooth started to decay (it grew in a way that I couldn't brush it properly so decay was inevitable), I ignored it for 8 months as I was scared of what would happen until it got to the point that it started crumbling and the pain was horrendous. The first thing I remember when it was extracted was "is that it?" and wishing that I'd done it sooner.

Honestly, it's so worth it in the long run and I'm no fan of injections either, but it's never as bad as you think it'll be.

stop being a cissy!!!

I took mrs jjint and beleive me, once the valium went in she had a great time. ;)

i had root canal work but cant remember how much i had done. It didnt hurt at all because of the local anesthetic. I HATE needles but I didnt even realise i'd had a couple of injections!! It wasnt till the 2nd visit (to have a tooth out) when I asked about it that i realised. It did hurt a lil when I had an injection right into the roof of my mouth. To be fair though, the thought of it is much worse than the actual injection. I cant help wanting to swallow when they start doin it though.....

IM alive

it was extracted root surgery wasnt an option for them . my face is well numbe not sure how long it will last for

£45 it cost and its worth it to get rid of the pain

And it didnt hurt 1 bit !!!
