Love it or hate it trance is here to stay...

but, that aside, who has contrubuted more good/harm to dance music.

discuss!

no name calling, thats my job

I like PVD's attitude. I've met him and he's a real down to earth guy...lots of passion for the music and scene. Tiesto is a pompous prick.

Tiesto is an untalented but lucky man.

PvD deserves his status IMO, but I don't like his style anymore really.

Definitely agree, I used to love his style. One of my favorite sets of mine was when I heard him at a club in Texas. He carried us into this deep and dark trance hole...truly a memorable moment in my life.

Paul van dyk - nice guy, loves his music with a passion and has the right attitude towards clubbers,he doesnt try and cram too many gigs in at once as he doesnt want to turn up late and wants to give his full potential and not to mention how much of a quality dj he is!

Tiesto - started off well in his crasher days but rapidly dropped in talent, when he wants to play well he can do but hes far too inconsistent!

im going to give tiesto one last chance this summer and if he's still sh*t then thats it for me

I dunno if i'd say Tiesto's actually harming the scene, through doing the Olympics/Disneyland he's certainly taking the music to a totally different audience which I suppose can be both good and bad - good in that it might introduce new people to the music/scene - bad in that, well, it's just plain f***ing cheesy and IMO is taking things waaaayyy too far - but then again, if I was offered £??,??? to play either of those gigs I doubt i'd be in much of a hurry to turn them down! It seems to me like Tiesto's constantly trying to outdo himself...first there was TIC, then the Olympics, then a slightly over the top TIC2 and now Disneyland - what comes next is surely anyone's guess where on the other hand PvD seems to be a bit more 'traditionalist' - sure, he's had his more commercial moments (Hello Moto etc) but nothing as ridiculously over the top as being on the same bill as Mickey Mouse, Pluto & Co...he seems to just get on with providing good, solid performances in the clubs and long may it continue!

he does still go really dark in some of his sets....he drops alot of techy stuff aswell, his cds that he makes are not like how he plays in a club really....he keeps his mix cd's really euphoric and trancey but in a club hes a bit different and most times amazing

I'd really like to hear another dark techy set of his. The last time I saw him was in LA at a NYE party and it was really trancey and way too hard for me. If I had the chance to see him in a club I would definitely go.

I'm so pleased.

This is an open forum so I'll give my opinion (which isn't intended at the expense of any other).
To me they're both cheap spin offs from the horrid Paul Jokenfold cream era when perfecto was churning out all that sh!te.
In '94, Goa trance had some nice buzzy energy but all that Gatecrasher stuff posessed nothing but a 'train chugging along and going nowhere' feel. Trance brings me down!
And really - these blokes are only djs...surely if they pioneer the same genre they can't be THAT different? :?

Please don't shoot me down in flames for saying this but I'm a fussy house dolly - what do I know?

The Oakie era when he was on form was when trance was at it's best IMO. The only person that's come close to him since then, and nearly got me back into trance is Armin VB.

Now tho, Trance Shmance  It's all about the house and breaks :P

I'm not really into trance these days but I've never thought Tiesto was good. I've seen him a few times and been bored on every occasion. I've also seen PVD a few times and he's been brilliant 75% of the time and only really dissapointing on one occasion.

I'm afraid I have to diagree with Robder really. Oakie and PVD are very different in terms of style. For me Oakie is more pure in his style of trance, whereas PVD has a style all of his own, much dirtier and darker most of the time.

PVD is far better imo, his mixing as always perfect and he played one of the best sets i ever heard at lush

tiesto has his moments, but im more into house music now and wont be going anywhere near cream in ibiza this year

never had the pleasure of seeing armin van buuren live though

Cream closing 2002.

Tiesto 1st. 3hrs... what a load of wank. never saw anything like it b4. music was the same pace ALL the way through.

contemplated throwing something at him at one point.

by time PvD (mans a funking genius imo - anyone got politics of dancing?) came on, i was in a rite foul mood. and went.

and that was the day i turned my back on "trance".

i havent seen the guy in nearly 2 years so couldnt possibly comment what he's like i might see him at cream for old times sake, back in 2002 i saw him 8 times that summer,i bloody worshipped him,ive think ive only seen pvd once

Pvd wins hands down everytime, not only a great dj but allso an excellant producer and i'd say in 80% of his sets 70% of the tunes are ither his own or his own re-mixes.Stays faithfull to his fans hardly miss's any gigs could go on for days.

Tiesto is just out there to earn big bucks don't think he's init for the music imho.
