Think i broke a rib!

About 10 days ago, i was rushing out and decided to take the quick fire escape route.

Bad idea ...... i slipped on a step and went head first into the brick wall. Just seemed like a few grazes but as each day goes by the bruising's coming out.

Anyhow, i think i may have broke/fractured a rib cos the pain's getting worse and worse.

Anyone else done this? How long will it take to mend?

:(

I cracked 2 a few years ago, i think you would have felt it well before now as mine hurt straight away, even breathing hurt. You've probably bruised it quite badly.

Any hows it wont hurt (ha ha) to get it checked.

I've broke/fractured loads of ribs in my accident-prone life :?

It is worth going to the doctor to get it checked out but there's nothing they can really do, they'll just say rest and it will heal itself in a few wks (the pain should ease after a couple of wks as long as you take it easy). A good painkiller to take is Ibuprofen cos as well as being a painkiller it also reduces any inflamation round the area.

They're so painful tho aren't they, laughing and coughing just about finish you off cos you feel like you're been stabbed

That's what io figured so not bothered with doc's. On eof my colleagues actually broke his rib a couple of weeks ago and doc told him there's nothing he could do but be careful.

It's probably just badly bruised to by heck, it hurts!

Ouch!!!

Can I just say, don't rush!!! Wise old man (Paul) once told me, it's better to be 20mins late than 50 years early!! Take note!

Hope you'll be feeling better soon :D

^^^ What Sarah said but get your Doc to give you some Diclofenac tablets, they're a non steroidal anti infalmatory pain killer like ibuprofen but much much better. 50mg of Diclofelanc is about 2-3 times more effective than 800mg of Ibuprofen 8O :D

That stuff is great, I got prescribed that after my 'person falling on me, crushing me and knocking me out' accident

I've got drawers full of half taken high-strength medicines

I'm going to have a rummage and see what else I can find in my bedroom drawers, being clumbsy and accident prone does have its advantage

I figure i may need it one day :?

The important thing is to rest it, by that i mean don't go to the gym (maybe you don't anyway!) or stuff like that. I broke 2 ribs but couldn't stop myself from climbing, training etc. The pain went on for 2 or 3 months before I went on holiday for 5 weeks and stopped doing stuff. When i got back it was fine again.

Pain getting worse by the day 8O

Was sat down last night, leaned over (to pick up my wine ;) ) and i heard/felt a cracking sound from my lower ribs which has resulted in even more pain.

Should i go to casualty and have it x-ray'd?

Barbie? (i see you  )

Hello, you called

As I said they won't really be able to do anything but it might be good for your peace of mind, plus they'll give you some super-duper strength painkillers. It's just whether you can be arsed with sitting in a lovely casualty department for x no of hours :? If you can spare a couple of hours today then I would go, then at least if they give you something you'll be able to enjoy rest of the wkend. It does sound like a broken/cracked rib, bruising would have eased off by now.

Andy, just had another thought, when I had another one of my many injuries, it was a Sunday night and I really couldn't face the thought of sitting in Casualty for godknowshow long cos I was in so much pain. I rang the NHS Direct Line 0845 4647 and they'll tell you whether they think you should go and get it checked out AND they also sometimes have an out of hours GP service at your local hospital. There was one that night in our local hospital, they booked me an appointment there, Tom drove me there and I saw them within 15 minutes of getting in cos I'd had an appointment.

Might be worth giving them a ring cos I don't know about you but I find Casualty departments hell

I have a spare afternoon so i may go have it checked out. Need to allow myself £30/£40 for parking

I've not bothered with painkillers because i don't want to mask the pain then go throwing myself around and make it worse. But on the other hand, it's so difficult at night trying to sleep.

Thanks anyhow .... ;)

Painkillers or something would be good for night-time and sleeping, I know when I've had them before I've laid in bed nearly crying cos the pain is so bad and you can't get comfortable or anything

Hope it goes ok.
