the terrace at dc10 and the ghost town (bora bora)

got back from ibiza today...

was a bit surreal walking up to bora bora and seeing practically nobody there. and it looks like no more dj's on the terrace at dc10 either. seems there are one or two places that have been affected in the same way all around the island.

i spoke to several people out there, and everyone has a different spin on the story.

the most obvious one involving local residents complaining about noise pollution and the police 'reviewing' licences that places like bora bora have and coming down strong on them. i cant believe that the government would risk losing money by forcing clubbers out of ibiza. all this 'changing the image of the island' stuff doesnt sound right.

its much easier to believe that the superclubs are bullying places like bora bora and dc10 (which many people seem to echo out there at the moment) - all, obviously, related to the drug trade - with the help of bribed police officers.

conspiracy? why not. otherwise, why dont the police raid space? if you spend 10 minutes on the terrace at space, you know what i'm refering to.

regardless of these slight hiccups, i got mashed out of my head.

dc10 remains the greatest place on the face of the planet - the inside of the club has always been a hellmouth of basslines, imo . space was actually pretty good this past sunday (even without JZ). very electro if my memory serves me correctly. and i think i did Cocoon on the monday night.

next year, its the opening parties and 12 days in september. i just hope nothing 'stupid' happens between now and then.

:D

Agreed Harry, there was defo an electro vibe at Space (05/09) and a little at DC-10 too. Circoloco was off the hook, as you said, bummed about no DJ outside--but man that place went off. Did you meet Mike Manu there? We saw him while we were bugged out of our minds.

...

I'm just glad DC10 will still be open next Monday when I get there...I was never particularly fond of the terrace anyway.

DC10 on Monday was packed! - of course a shame the decks were shut down but still was pretty slammin' on the terrace considering.

And WLS on Sunday was my best ever clubbing experience for all sorts of reasons.

I thought I would miss Bora Bora a lot more than I did, but its still an institution and will be very welcomed back if ever it is.

What I heard most from those out there was that it is 'mafia' linked - by that they mean big clubs pushing their weight about, influencing, bribing etc etc. Simple as that. Nothing to do with 'noise pollution'...Ibiza has been rockin' for many years.

totally agree, on all points.

the vibe out there was still great. the terrace in the afternoon at space, is just about as good as it gets.

the evening set (inside) was also great, though shame JZ wasnt there.

dc10, is the best place to spend a monday in. i called 4 different people (back home in the uk) and just held the phone up to the speakers   , just to let them know how my day was going :D

i reckon that by next summer. well, i hope.

DexCee, let me know if you are out there next summer. i know its a long way off and i know we have made a couple of attempts at meeting up (which kinda didnt go well) - but summer 2005 can still happen.

oh, and have a blast at dc10. and get mashed :D

Space was excellent on Sunday, especially the music. I was dancing for 9 hours straight! :D
Unfortunately didn't make it to DC10 at all... and next year it probably doesn't exist anymore. Oh, well.

hear hear! i reckon if i could only go to one place every again in my whole life it would be DC10!

i was there week before this and the terrace had no djs, apparently police smashed up the speakers the night before that in an attempt to stop the club from going ahead, it didn't stop it, just meant dc10 didn't open til 2thirty in the afternoon and there were no djs on the terrace just mahoosive speakers from the main room.

i dont think that DC10 will not exist any more... in any case the terrace but i don't think they will close the whole disco...

Re space rocking last sunday, it must be me but i thought it was too bust and had no atmosphere! im too old i guess

during the day, space is at its best on the terrace. in the evening session, its too crowded, but i tend to be inside at that point anyway.

HARRY are u serious? Bora Bora closed or closing down? From my experience Bora Bora made the island-music, beautiful women, and especially vibe-Bora Bora is Ibiza...it's the place where katz can just chill and lounge out after a crazy night of partyin or that pickup party after 8 am to keep dancing, drinking and hookin up till the next party starts...and how can i forget the screams from peeps everytime a plane flies overhead welcoming the new and old partyers before they touch down on this island heaven called Ibiza...all i got to say is wut happened to the island? wut happened?

I'm absolutely gutted. I only made it to DC10 for the first time this June and it was the most intense clubbing experience of my life - Circo Loco is one of only two parties in Ibiza I've visited twice in the same holiday (Manumission being the first). As for Bora Bora, for me it's the essential Ibiza experience. For the authorities to say that noise pollution is the reason is a joke considering DC10 has a runway right beside it and the volume of the music that pumps out of the cheesy discos and 'British pubs' in PDB all night compared to Bora Bora. 2005 was already looking unlikely due to financial considerations but that double whammy on top of the Space terrace probably going may have just made up my mind :(

Just come back from Paradise OMG, it was so good, anyway posters for Dc 10 Circo loco for next 2 weeks, that the terrace will be open with djś again, one week it is Hawtin vs. ( don` remember hwo)!

Have fun!

I was there for the Space/DC10 thing same time. Space kicked and Circo Loco was still wonderfully twisted even though there was no dj on the terrace. I really hope it's there next year.

Anybody know who was after Jon Ulysses at Space that Sunday (12th) ? He left the place a bit flat I thought.

Ok everyone I have been going to Ibiza for last 5 years and experienced Bora Bora for the first time 3 years ago, for me its the best place to go, its great music, great people and atmosphere, its a free party and its on the beach and there are no pretentious people too worried about how they are dressed/make up & hair, well just a few then.
I went to space for the first time this year and I have to say I didn't rate it, and I know you will all be ready to slate me for it, the sound stystem wasn't great, the atmos seemed forced, people were not friendly and very pretentious, music was a right mish mash and I wouldn't pay 50 euros again for the priveledge. In my opinion I think the big clebs/disco mafia have alot to do with getting the smaller clubs closed as when you think about it if people can go to Bora Bora etc for free then they are not buying a ticket for space and spending money at their bar, if they shut down all the open air free parties clubbers are then forced to go to Space because their is no other choice. Also with regard to the point that someone made about BB being closed due to the noise and complaints from the locals, Bora Bora is surrounded by holiday apartments most of which are filled with clubbers and when we went to Bora Bora while it was still open in the 1st week of our hol my other half commented that he could hear the music of someones beat box outside the jet apartments before we got to BB, basically you have to be on top of the place to be able to hear the music and if it is such a problem with the noise why don't they just restrict the opening times. Everyone should be working together on the Island to keep the great atmos and helping each other to ensure the spirit of the island remains and to ensure that people keep coming back. If they dont and things like what have happened this season continue to happen they run the risk of people holidaying elsewhere, people will get wise to it and wont continue to pay high club entry fees and expensive bar prices!! I think that the super clubs are forgetting what matters the clubbers and all they are interested in is the amount of money they can make, I am now starting to see a darker side to Ibiza which I don't like and I m not saying I wont continue to go because there are lots of other good things to enjoy but I will be interested to see how next seasons goes, I think there is an element of greed on the Island now!

think it was aldrin playing at about 5-6ish on the terrace, if that's the time you mean? i also thought he wasn't up to much
