I embraced the digital revolution 7 years ago!!! Been DJing with computers since 1998, initially with VTT (Virtual TurnTables) on a tower computer. Then in January 2002 I moved onto laptops with Visiosonics PCDJ Red & Blue along with the DMC-01 Controller. I upgraded to Visiosonics PCDJ FX VRM 2 years ago, however, it's a heavyweight program and a small percentage of users have a random 'sound drop' problem. Unfortunately, I'm having this with my current laptop, so I use the original PCDJ Red.
I obviously prefer PCDJ Red because it's rock solid and totally bomb proof. It has a clean interface and the screen display gives you what look like 2 CD players across the top of the screen and therefore giving you plenty of screen area for your record case to 'browse' through your catalog. This is one of the downfalls of a lot of the other software packages, as most DJs like to spend time browsing through the record case, just like looking through your vinyl record case.
The only problem with Red is that it was designed for an 800x600 screen display and can't be altered. The program is no longer being developed because of their new program FX VRM, but it is still the most stable program on the planet.
Abelton - I have just bought this a month ago. Depends what you want to do, but, it was never designed for general DJing. If you're a big name and turn up to do a 2 hour set of specialised music like house or trance just as you would with a single vinyl record case (like Sasha), then maybe. But, if you want to turn up with thousands of tunes and be versatile then it's not the program for you. I'm gonna be using it for other things i.e. music creation, remixing, etc.
Basically, don't be swayed by fancy looking graphics leaving you a tiny letterbox to see your record case (BPM Studio, VirtualDJ, Tractor, etc., etc.). It's far more important to have a rock solid stable program and be able to browse your records comfortably.
If you need any more detailed info let me know.
P.S. Wouldn't touch mixvibes with a barge pole.
P.P.S. I still use vinyl too and mix between vinyl and computer. 8)
