How many of you have embraced it? Just looking for advice on how many of you are using a digital platform like stanton's final scratch 2, albeton live5 or the one I am looking at getting (and can afford after 2 trips to ibiza) the mix vibes dvs....

I'm looking through them all at the moment and thinking I'm gonna go for the mix vibes having read the reviews on it and the price works out about £120 for it.... has anyone used it at all?

(if anyone wants to have a look what I'm on about check out mixvibes.com)

thanks guys\girls would appreciate your views\advice

all the best

I embraced the digital revolution 7 years ago!!! Been DJing with computers since 1998, initially with VTT (Virtual TurnTables) on a tower computer. Then in January 2002 I moved onto laptops with Visiosonics PCDJ Red & Blue along with the DMC-01 Controller. I upgraded to Visiosonics PCDJ FX VRM 2 years ago, however, it's a heavyweight program and a small percentage of users have a random 'sound drop' problem. Unfortunately, I'm having this with my current laptop, so I use the original PCDJ Red.

I obviously prefer PCDJ Red because it's rock solid and totally bomb proof. It has a clean interface and the screen display gives you what look like 2 CD players across the top of the screen and therefore giving you plenty of screen area for your record case to 'browse' through your catalog. This is one of the downfalls of a lot of the other software packages, as most DJs like to spend time browsing through the record case, just like looking through your vinyl record case.

The only problem with Red is that it was designed for an 800x600 screen display and can't be altered. The program is no longer being developed because of their new program FX VRM, but it is still the most stable program on the planet.

Abelton - I have just bought this a month ago. Depends what you want to do, but, it was never designed for general DJing. If you're a big name and turn up to do a 2 hour set of specialised music like house or trance just as you would with a single vinyl record case (like Sasha), then maybe. But, if you want to turn up with thousands of tunes and be versatile then it's not the program for you. I'm gonna be using it for other things i.e. music creation, remixing, etc.

Basically, don't be swayed by fancy looking graphics leaving you a tiny letterbox to see your record case (BPM Studio, VirtualDJ, Tractor, etc., etc.). It's far more important to have a rock solid stable program and be able to browse your records comfortably.

If you need any more detailed info let me know.

P.S. Wouldn't touch mixvibes with a barge pole.

P.P.S. I still use vinyl too and mix between vinyl and computer. 8)

Cheers the advice it's much appreciated...7 years.... I have been a technophobe for far too long me thinks... having read your thread now having a re-think about the mix vibes, will have a look at the pcdj red and see how much that is going for. I like the idea of still combining the use of the vinyl too - got far too many records to let them gather dust just yet.

I've spent a few hours using mixvibe 3 dex tonight, neat little program, easy to mix on but i found the pitch control isn't as accurate as I'd like, maybe with a bit more practice and one of those hercules DJ consoles i'd nail it...

Can't buy it as it's been out of production for 2 1/2 years. :( But, it's 'available' on t'internet. ;) :D

The version you want is PCDJ Red 5.2

Best controllers on the market;

The controllers for BPM Studio, very nice (and very expensive), but, afaik they only work with BPM Studio. Just checked and their controllers are from £510 to £820!!!

Visiosonics, the DMC-01 I use is out of production now (was £200 when I bought it 3 years ago) and has been replaced with the DAC2. They can work with other manufacturers software. Visiosonics also has a brand new upmarket controller as good as BPM Studios top of the range controller about to be released. It's called the DAC3 and can also control other programs via MIDI. It's NOT backwards compatible with PCDJ Red, the DAC2 is. DAC2 is about £250 the DAC3 is around £330.

An interesting cheapy due on the market is a combination one by Behringer called the BCD2000. It has the sound cards built in, but, unfortunately it doesn't currently work fully with Visiosonics products although this is supposed to in the pipeline to be fixed. Price will be around £120.

Using a Controller with a computer makes a BIG difference, I can't imagine what it's like to fart around using the mouse. I have to use the computer keyboard to type when I'm doing a search but I can just about do everything else with the controller. ;)

Les,

what does the strange purple liquid do?

I like to mixmeister but Im thinkin bout investing in CD-J's. I ain't never gonna be able to afford Vinyl so theres no point even pretending for me.

Keep my throat wet, Blackcurrent & water, it's all I drink when DJing as I'm always driving to carry all the gear you can see. I'm supposed to just take in CD's, but, I don't care for working with CD's. Also their mixer is shyte with NO eq's on it, so, been taking my own mixer in for 3 years. I only take the decks in 'cos they're flightcased. Plus I spend so much money on vinyl it's nice to play it out............and it shoves it up the jacksie of the nay sayers.

Vinyl IS expensive. I dread to think, but a rough guestimate is I've spent around £2,500 in the last 12 months on vinyl. 8O
TBH I've noticed that most of the big names have moved over to CD's in the last year or so, obviously easier to carry when globe trotting. It's only a couple of years that the public poo pooed DJ's that used CD's, maybe in a few years using a computer will become more accepted as a legit way to play out. :D Sasha is already doing this now. :D

Whoa!!!..................that's NOT the same Red I'm talking about!!!

That is a cut-down version of FX VRM, it uses the same core engine etc. They just disabled some of the functions to put it out cheaper. If you're lucky you might have it work perfectly on your laptop, however, it's NOT guaranteed to work flawlessly. :?

That Controller is the current one which is backwards compatible with the OLD Red.

Check my earlier post, again, the program you need is Visiosonics PCDJ Red 5.2 build 1023.

Find it, go play with it, and if you like it then look into going legit which you should do if your going to use it in public and making money with it. 8)

(come on jez, get your act together, it took me less than 10 seconds to find it on Google!!!) 8O

lol Sorry m8 I've been up since 4.30 for work and through my tired eyes it looked like I was getting the same thing you've got - just the updated version - legit registered and ready to go.

When I find the one you work with at the mo aren't I going to struggle to go legit with it at a later date :?:

You agree to go for the Dac 2 though?
