I might be going this year as it goes, a few (London) friends of mine are taking a crew over and may be putting on a few (small) do's.

Not sure where (in Thailand) or anything, tbh I know sweet fa about the place.

(Oh, and can you stop using the word "thrills"!

I let it go at your review post as i was overcome with sympathy, but now it's beginning to grate on me. ;) .

And if "Bumbles" (to use the correct term) are the best liveners I can find out there, I shall be writing to abta demanding a refund!

are you the word police?
i like the word thrill and i shall continue to use
now keep us update on that partee pleas

both places (koh phangan and goa) are amazing. For newyears I would recommand Koh Phangan, gonna be massive (like every year) imagine 10000 punters on a paradise beach. Party will most likely continue for 2 days. Dont miss out the pre and after parties. They will happen in Ban Tai, in the jungle great venue no police inside but strictly a progr/trance music policy. Day after full moon round noon the afterparty at the legendary club Backyard starts. Its up the top of the hill right between haadrin sunrise and leela beach. Mad place always full of casualties 8O
The place to go to at the fullmoon is Big Boom Bar. Simon Solo (the guy of mintbar www.mintbar.com) spinning the freshest housetunes. Best part of party is sunrise. Most 'tourists' are gone only partypeople left. Never buy thrills on the beach. The whole e scene moved to other beaches since the big crackdown last year. Good place to get sorted is Chai Bar at Tong Nai Pan Yai beach. For anymore questions feel free to ask.

brilliant exactly what i wanted to hear
so please pleas tell me
best place(s) to stay
best/ cheapest way to get there?

any websites/ forums to look at

thanks for that mate

best places to stay. For me personally it has always been Leela Beach, Cocohut resort (http://www.cocohut.com/). Its secluded but only a 15 minutes walk of the main party scene. It attracks a bit older crowd (mainly israelis though). The beach itself is pristine and the sunsets amazing.
Another cool beach to stay at is Thong Nai Pan, it has got more long time residents with a more bohemian feel to it. Not really parties to speak of happening there tho but best place to get sorted (no police due to very difficult to get there by road). Other nice beach is Haad Yuan, also secluded only a 10 minute boatride from mainbeach Haad Rin. But if you look for a bit of luxuary and your main aim is to party then I recommand staying in the Haadrin area (Leela Beach). One place I recommand to eat is Thai Bird Food, thai restaurant near haadrin pier, best thai food I ve eaten this year. Try the massaman curry with chicken its heavenly. Also if you are into mushrooms, try a mushroomshake at Escobar, a little bar at the end of Haadrin Sunset.
Last thing about the parties, days before full moon (or newyear) the main beach (Cactus Bar) kicks of every night. But its not untill 3 am till they start playing house. Before that its mainly r n b and some oldskool (jackson five, grandmaster flash etc). After that expect to hear Lola's theme, Promised Land, Your love, Love Generation, etc. All a bit cheesy but after a few buckets (mix of thai redbull whiskey and coke) you probably dont mind that.
Cheapest way to get there is by nightrain from Bangkok to Suratani. But I would recommand flying to Samui and then take the boat to Phangan(http://www.bangkokair.com/)

I've got spies looking at me from all angles...am suffering a work internet ban at the mo!!!

Have got stacks of info on Thailand so feel free to pvt me any time with questions. ;) 8)

OK...here goes...

Be very careful with drugs - it's not Ibiza or London, if you get caught you're b*ggered and your fate depends on the mood of the police.
You probably wouldn't get banged up in the Bangkok Hilton but you might get a fine of 1,000s (they could march you to a cash point and get you to empty your account for example)...just a warning.

Therefore - NEVER score on Haad Rin beach.

KPG is a beautiful island actually - the jungle/rugged coastline/hilly landscape mean that roads can't connect the resorts which means limited electricity etc...and a much more secluded feel.

People will always give you different advice on where to stay but my personal fave is the Sanctuary on Haad Thien (there are loads of surrounding resorts so if you want somewhere cheaper just stay nearby and use their facilities). I had the most amazing time whilst staying there...it's a boat ride around the bay from the main Haad Rin action (but beware of choppy corner - eeek) and is set in a beautiful health resort with hammocks, lanterns etc - ask any of the long boats when you arrive and they'll do you a cheap deal on getting there - it's p*ss easy. The food is lovely and you can do yoga, have a massage/spa, or detox in the 'wellness centre' (colonic stuff :-/)...amongst loads of other stuff.
The people there are always really special but expect to be wierded out by loads of really way out hippies!

It's a really good way to escape the norm because back packers can be really vile and at the end of the day, it's just like being at home.

TBH if I may say so - I think the full moony thing is worth a look but it's a bit cr*p really. The music can be really sh*te...expect road drill techno which is synonymous with the island (and actually quite good over there) and loads of naff stages playing Eminem etc - 8O :? :( :x .

Robder's suggested route - go to Guy's Bar (an amazing club in the trees behind the Sanctuary resort on Haad Thien) - they do mushroom shakes over the bar and generally it's safer to score there...stay there till 3am ish - head over to Haad Rin for the sunrise because all the lightweight tw*ts will have passed out in vomit/gone home by then...and finally head over to the Back Yard club.

Most people will know where Back Yard is...this place is amazing and is easily the DC-10 of Asia (yes it really is that good). Back Yard runs all day so don't burn yourself out too quickly - that's what most people do!

The main full moon event isn't much cop so follow the above advice and you'll experience the best of everything! ;)

...oh and ta for the distraction - was quite a nice way to (not) start work.

Great piece of advice, thanks guys! I'm planning to go to Thailand this winter.

One question, is Backyard open only for FM parties :?:

It does loads of one offs...

The xmas eve/NYE ones are great for example but they usually fall around the full moon as an after party.

OK thanks 8)

I think I'll aim for a FM party while I'm there. Even if the parties are "not what they used to be", I still want to experience one myself.
