if u lke ur techno like myself,...then u know u need to be going to this night!! i went last yr with sven vath and laurent garnier  off the hook!!! serious good night! its full of europeans (italian/spanish/germans etc) as they love there techno.

i shall be in attendance this summer :D

Coccoon was my favourite night last year........brilliant.

Sven Vath is ok.......plays a melodic brand of techno.

If you get the chance to see Richie Hawtin do it.........the guy is a genius.

I managed to catch a Cocoon Club in 2002 with Sven Vaeth and Richie Hawtin... incredible Monday evening. Absolutely incredible.

The best part about Cocoon Club was that it was rivaling Manumission. Those out for the party went to Manumission, and those out for the music were grooving with Hawtin and Vaeth.

I managed to get my camera in to Amnesia as well-- I was hassled at the door, but once the doorman discovered that it was a real camera, and not a disposable, he allowed me to enter with it if I "promised not to take any pictures."

The results are located here: http://homepage.mac.com/yacko/PhotoAlbum20.html

Recommended highly.

Big fan of Cocoon and techno, but I though Vath was a bit of a let down when I saw him at Cocoon last summer and thought the dj on before him, Frank Lorber another Cocoon resident was much better.

Vath knows how to work the crowd, but I felt the stuff he played bordered on the trancier side of techno :x as it was so 'euphoric' in parts which really isn't my cup of tea at all. However, when I'm over this season, Dj Hell is playing with him which should be amazing.

He poo-ed in a corridor at Space, allegedly. And then threw said poo at a security guard, allegedly.

A bit of a sh*tty thing to do.

I heard it was in the toilets as he was in there with two ladies and the bouncer wanted them out.

I doubt it's true as it'd be a bit of a fuggin' stupid thing to do considering everyone would know who he is.

Sven vath is a very talented techno DJ and one of the pioneer german techno DJs. His current style moves in between tech-electro to melodic pumping techno (german techno).

I myself heard him last year alongside Richie Hawtin and both tore down the dancefloor to pieces... amazing night that was. You can find pics i shot on that night here:
Cocoon closing party, 15/09/03

Cocoon @ Amnesia is a night not to be missed for all the techno lovers! 8)

sven väth is fantastic!!!!!!
he is a techno legend. not only that he plays techno, vath IS techno 8)
anyway, I think you have to understand him in order to like him...

some info:

Sven Väth is one of the world's most legendary DJs and club scene figures, notorious for his long DJ-sets and blinding energy. With a career spanning over two decades, he's gone a long way from his start in '82 to defining trance in the early 90's and presently creating a techno sound of his own.

Sven Väth is best known for what he accomplished during the 90's. With Väth as the visionary director, the labels Harthouse and Eye Q produced countless landmark classics of electronic music and defined the European club sound of their time. Among the gems are Väth's own best-selling concept albums ”Accident in Paradise” and ”The Harlequin, The Robot and the Ballet Dancer”, which were followed later by ”Fusion”, ”Contact” and ”Fire” -albums.

Recently Sven Väth has been pushing quality sounds and refreshing the club life in Ibiza with his Cocoon Club at Amnesia. With Richie Hawtin as the second resident, the list of their guests is not unlike the ”Techno's who's who”: Mills, Heil, Rachmad, Cox, Hell, F.E.O.S., Bondzio, Bug, Carola, Liebing, Villalobos, Acquaviva, Lekebusch, Beyer, Rush, Wink, Rother, Weatherall, Fixmer, Ho, Mayer. After numerous Cocoon events around Germany this year sees also the opening of a new Cocoon Club venue in Frankfurt.

Still at the top of his game, Väth's current sound is an original mixture of modern club music, building from glitchy electronics to mindblowing techno with masterful skill.

I'm looking forward to this year - loads of techno around!. I'm trying to time my visit to catch Picotto's new night at Privilege, Cocoon (which I missed last year for some reason) and Coxy's opening at Space. So it's looking like mid July for me rather than the end of June...

seen both hawtin and sven vath at cocoon. richie last year and sven the year before. i have to say i enjoyed richie hawtin a lot more and his plastikman stuff is f***in tremendous.

the nite we seen vath green velvet also played - what a combination!!!

I just think there's better techno djs out there. Sorry!
Names please :D

Ok: Dj Rush, Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Adam Beyer, Robert Hood, Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Ben Sims, Surgeon...

I love my techno, but I was a bit disappointed with Vath. I appreciate he's been around for ages and has done a lot, but I've never been that keen on his own material and that his act was based around the man and the myth rather than the music.

He is still worth catching, but I'm just saying that there's better about.

Still, he's to thank for Cocoon!
