peppermint - it makes my job as an admin loads easier.
this in in terms of
1) user admin, which vb handles very elegantly.
2) customising the look and feel of the board.
with phpbb this was a nightmare - everytime i had to update the software because of security issues, i had to manually edit many files to include my customisations and 'hacks'.
vb handles all the templates in a database and gives you very clear instructions about which bits have changed in an update. furthermore they have a great plugin system for adding your own code (am i getting too deep
from a users perspective i just prefer the way vb handles many things, from the quicklinks, the AJAX replying, the way in which mods can edit titles (just double-click on the title) and lock threads, etc.
however, having said all that, it is bloody slow

but i think that is my fault with the way in which i config the server. i am not a full-blood geek, so my knowledge of mysql optimisation is limited. i am going to be tuning this with help from someone over the next few days. hopefully this will then be a thing of the past. if not, we might have to upgrade to a dual CPU server, but i am hoping that can be avoided.
it has also made it very easy for us to integrate the benidorm forums and our main site - when i get a bit of time i shall be doing even more of this integration, as i still get the feeling that many people don't realise there's 5000+ pages of ibiza information just a mouse-click away
i'll keep you all updated as to how it goes.
