in the last few days i often git this message: The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

i don't like it  what's the reason and is there any solution to solve the problem or is it just a problem of my pc and/or connection?! :?:

it's not your pc, it's happening to everyone. don't know why but it's unusual because when a server is too busy is just usually says 'Page not found'

sorry, i am working on this - the new forum software is great but is very resouce intensive. i hope to find a solution next week.

James, what made you change to this software?

No problems re: site access from here in the antipodes.

Hey Dr Mick, are you back in NZ? 8O
Are you going to be on Ibiza again next summer?
Oh and you probably will not have any problems accessing the site from there as you must be the only one ;)

Yes I'm currently back in the land of my birth and eating mum's food again. Tonight we had rack of lamb. Mmmm, cute little bouncing lambs.

Anyway, I'll be in Ibiza again ASAP. April is my estimated date of arrival.

Re: the amount of NZers accessing the site, I'm sure it is very low. I'm doing my best to convert them all tho.

:) :) :)

Be nice to the poor lambs, Mick... After all, don't they outnumber you upright-walking folk 2-1 or something? There could be a backlash from all this "converting"

Sweet! Enjoy mama's cooking and hope to see you next summer! :D

peppermint - it makes my job as an admin loads easier.

this in in terms of

1) user admin, which vb handles very elegantly.
2) customising the look and feel of the board.

with phpbb this was a nightmare - everytime i had to update the software because of security issues, i had to manually edit many files to include my customisations and 'hacks'.

vb handles all the templates in a database and gives you very clear instructions about which bits have changed in an update. furthermore they have a great plugin system for adding your own code (am i getting too deep ;)

from a users perspective i just prefer the way vb handles many things, from the quicklinks, the AJAX replying, the way in which mods can edit titles (just double-click on the title) and lock threads, etc.

however, having said all that, it is bloody slow ;) but i think that is my fault with the way in which i config the server. i am not a full-blood geek, so my knowledge of mysql optimisation is limited. i am going to be tuning this with help from someone over the next few days. hopefully this will then be a thing of the past. if not, we might have to upgrade to a dual CPU server, but i am hoping that can be avoided.

it has also made it very easy for us to integrate the benidorm forums and our main site - when i get a bit of time i shall be doing even more of this integration, as i still get the feeling that many people don't realise there's 5000+ pages of ibiza information just a mouse-click away ;)

i'll keep you all updated as to how it goes.

More like 8 to 1. And if any of them ever get shown that scene in Peter Jackson's 'Bad Taste' where a sheep is blown up with a rocket launcher then we could be in trouble.
