Space Security

We stayed in the Hotel Don Toni in Playa D'en Bossa and over looked the main entrance of the hotel...

One afternoon Space had been thumping out all day and the wind was favourable and was carrying the sound to our hotel where we sat on the balcony drinking Sambuca, enjoying the atmosphere and just loving life.

We heard shouting and half a dozen or so young German guys sprinted up the cul-de-sac that houses the hotel, they were being pursued by a gang of bouncers from Space, the Germans sprinted onto the beach but one of them made the mistake of hiding behind a parked car outside the hotel.

When the bouncers discovered him two of them (they were damn big!) began to beat him without mercy, the assault went on for around five minutes and I even witnessed one of the bouncers using a small cosh to beat him with.

They left the young guy in a heap, and after a pause of a couple of minutes one of the bouncers ran back and kicked him in the head like he was a football. To say I was shocked is an understatement, when his pals came back up from the beach they took ages to bring him around and he looked in a very bad way.

Now I don't know what the German lads were up to or what they had been doing wrong in Space, but witnessing the incident left me feeling sick for a couple of days.

Are the clubs becoming so important to Ibiza's economy that they are becoming above the law?

that is horrible !!

A girl i met there said outside of pacha there was one young, tiny boy having his head smashed into the pavement by 5 big bouncers!..
its one thing to kick someone out of a club or to call the police regarding drug issues.... but to beat someone to a pulp?!?!?

Huh, Ibiza as a island seems to be nowdays quite sick. I do enjoy clubbing there but reading topics like this and shootings / burglaries / thefts makes me think this summer was the last I ever visited Ibiza (been there for the last seven summers).

Well I still haven't seen any fights or searching going on and I've been there every year since 2001. Guess I've been lucky though:)

The only time I came across security was in pacha on Monday of this week. My friends and I were putting chewing gum in our mouths when the bouncers swooped...thank god we could show them it was just chewing gum:lol:

They even gave us a sweetie each to apologise!

I Was in Ibiza last week and the Space security were all moody b*stards on a power trip!

We were queing up to get into the carl cox closing party and had been queing nearly an hour. The space security kept randomly changing the way the que snaked by moving the barriers letting people who had been queing for a shorter time in whilst letting others wait longer.
Obviously the atmosphere in the que wasnt great.

I didnt see what happened but the next thing one of the bouncers punches some guy in the side of the head so he starts bleeding from his ear then pulls him and his friend out of the que whilst about 5 other bouncers make sure they both leave the vicinity very quickly.

By the time I finally make it to the door my friend in front of me is pushed hard off the step by the bouncer on the door so that there is no one queing on the steps.

So not to make the same mistake i waited patiently (after an hour queing) whilst checking my messages on my phone. As the que for the till disappeared i thought i saw the bouncer wave me through, i obviously didnt as when i stepped up i was also pushed hard in my chest, almost falling over, back down the step and almost breaking my sunglasses.

Doesnt really give you a good impression of the club before you get in. For the amount of money that you give them you would think they would have at least some customer service.

Also saw numerous other instances inside the club.

This all just seems so surreal to me. I have been to Ibiza four times now and I have never witnessed a single case of bouncers abusing customers. Does this really happen often? I would also add that I have never once seen the Guardia Civil fondling peoples genitals (as has been posted in other threads) to find drugs. I'm not calling anyone a liar, but I won't let these stories ruin my desire to go to Ibiza unless I witness it first hand. On the other hand, I can also see how reading these accounts or seeing something like this happen would completely put someone off.

Like I mentioned I didnt really see what happened in order for the bouncers to react in the way they did to the lad in the que, maybe it was deserved?

But in my case i was only guilty of being a little impatient to get into the club. Its not the first time ive come accross moody bouncers on a power trip and it definitely didnt ruin my night but i did feel a little dissapointed.

Also out of the 8 of us who went, 1 was searched by the guardia and he did have his genitals fondled!

This was my first trip to Ibiza after waiting so many years to finally go and allthough I still had an amazing time it definitely did dampen the experience somewhat with the thought of full body searches being carried out (not so much the bouncers). When on holiday it would be nice to be able to relax completely without things like this playing on your mind.

It's society. I have never witnessed a fight anywhere.

But only had trouble off a bouncer once at Bora Bora for stepping on the concrete from the beach with my friends bottle of water (which he bought elsewhere). The guy took it off me and poured it on the beach. I just laughed at him and walked off.

But 2 of friends got strip searched in the bushes next door to DC10 which really put me off going there. They thought they were going to get rubber gloves out.

I really wouldnt let it bother you though, they have to be stringent to a degree.

ive always wondered why there is civil guard? do any other countries have them? is it due to lack of police or what? just curious..

edit: just googled it and found some info on it

thank christ we dont have a civil guard in scotland!

My experience of bouncers has mainly been a good one but it is a very fickle business. One day they can be responsive and friendly and the next it's as though they've never seen you before. I am always friendly to them as you have to have respect for the fact that they can be volatile.

When you get one bouncer alone, he's probably quite nice. When you get five bouncers together, they are like a pack;the testosterone is multiplied 100 fold. It's always the same when you get similar people together; they encourage each other. An aggressive person, when mixed with gentle people, is unlikely to be violent. A criminal, when socialising with law abiding people will be less likely to get into trouble.

You also have to remember that some of them will be on steroids which turn men into robots with no compassion, no reasoning, no sympathy and zero tollerance. There's no point arguing with a bouncer on steroids; you're not dealing with a reasonable person.

Be an obedient little soul, smile, say hello and wear a mask, even if you'd rather let them know what you really think. Feed their egos as they're very important to them. If there's ever sign of trouble, lie low and don't get involved. Remember, all you want from them is to get into the club and be left to enjoy yourself.

At the end of the day, it is Ibiza, the White Isle. It's a drug den. The more drugs, the more money is to be made and the more serious the situation. You have to take the rough with the smooth. Also imagine the amount of rubbish they have to deal with in one night. There are a lot of d*cks out there and I'd probably get a bit short tempered after a night of them. It doesn't excuse excessive violence though but, like I said, we're not always dealing with people who think and act reasonably. Never forget that.

Most of the bouncers I've seen in space have been fine to ME. I was taking some videos and photos in space and he came by and just shook his finger at me.

I saw the same bouncer shake his finger at a guy who was doing a line on the back of his hand... i saw the same bouncer taking a guy by the back of his shirt and kicking him out the side entrance of space... but don't know what happened outside the club :?

All the bouncers I've dealt with in Ibiza have been really friendly, but I also believe that things like that happen. I know there are a lot of dickhead bouncers out there that think they are above the law, I'm just lucky not to have dealt with them.

In a related note, but hopefully not too insensitive, I LOVE the Space security shirts. I actually asked one of them if I can buy it back for Canada, but of course it was a no. In case you don't know what they are, it's a wikkid dark green shirt and it says Space Control on them... really wikkid.

When I went to Pacha for the subliminal sessions opening this summer, I was actually kicked INTO the club! I was trying to find out where the nearest cash machine was so that I would have cash inside, but the bouncers around the door were in their 'I don't speak english' mode. A german couple I had met on the way to the club helped me out by asking a bouncer they had just met, so he decided to shuffle us to the front of the line. When we got there, the door bouncer said I was not allowed in because I was wearing flip-flops. Luckily a very hot girl was standing right behind me wearing similar footware and I pointed between hers and mine and gestured like 'look, same shoes!' He grudgingly said ok and then I proceeded to ask him where the nearest cash machine was (because that was my main goal at the moment, not getting into the club). He told me 'right across the dance floor, by the bathrooms' and I said 'sweet!' I then tried to hand him my credit card to pay the 40-50? euro cover charge. He then reexplained the location of the cash machine and grabbed me and THREW me into the club! I decided not to argue with him. Talk about a great way to start the night! First drinks were on me...

bouncers

We made as well bad experiences with the bouncers in space. especially on sunday. they think they can do whatever they want. reason enough not going to space anymore. there are other good places to go. never had problems in amnesia, bora bora or elsewhere.

ibiza still is great, but avoid those assholes!

Like some of the previous posters, we have never had any bad experiences with door staff at Space or anywhere in Ibiza. This year at Matinee, a guy went head first off his chair and hit the floor like a ton of potatoes:oops: 8O . A couple of door men were over to the guy and helped him up before any clubbers realised what had happened. He wasn't thrown out, simply taken somewhere quiet and was fine within a few minutes.

I have always found the sapce bouncers to very tolerant unless provoked - the only time I have seen them employ violence is when violence has been used agaisnt them or someone has tried to do something very very bad in the club. I.E Mug or sexually assault someone.. I am not saying they are angels, but what bouncers are...? I agree with the above comment, I have seen them help many a mashed clubber out and let them continue their day. I generally prefer the space bouncers to any other as they try to stay out of the way and let people have a good time. I would certainly not let it put anyone off of space.

Got no hassle off the bouncers @ Space myself that's not to say they cant be cu*ts,the gripe i have with Space is that they sometimes let too many people in all in order to make mega €€€€€€€€ :?

I maybe able to get my hands on some control shirts.

To be honest I have seen more trouble from door staff/security in my home city than I have in the many many visits to Ibiza.

only 2 OTT incidents in Ibiza

Space 04 - one guy being frogmarched out for doing coke - but two security guys had both the perpertrator's arms up his back pushing him and pushing him til his feet didnt touch the floor and then disclocating his shoulder was a bit of a shocker - just heard the pop and thought I was going to be sick there and then.

Bora Bora 04 - a bunch of lairy lager lads acting like they would in their home time Ritzy, one of them ran away from security only to actually run into another security guy and I swear to God that security bod threw a punch which I defy anyone to actually see it was so fast, the guy just ran, stopped dead, then dropped to the floor - we were like FTW happened there - he was like Super-Bouncer!!

Other than those two incidents I havent seen anything worse than at home. I always make sure that I am as polite and friendly as I can be towards security in Ibiza, because quite frankly they terrify me, in a way that not many other people can scare me :? :?
