So now I'm left with no money, and debits are still to be taken from my account, and I have to wait forever while it's investigated before I get the said stolen monies credited back to my account!!!!

Thing is, its a cash withdrawal, but I have my card with me still :? how the hell have they managed to do that?

Perhaps a cash withdrawal from a teller in a branch? They should be able to check that out easily with cctv cameras.

Sounds like a case of identity theft or something.

Oh thats awful!

the same thing happened to a friend of mine a while back- you will get your money back, it will just take a while.

It might have been a device clipped onto a cash machine - it clones your card details and records your pin when you try to use the cashpoint. I always check them before I use them now- I've seen a couple on machines over the last few months.

..or it could have been someone in a bar/restaurant/shop cloning your card and watching you type your pin in when you paid for something.

Unfortuntely thats one of the drawbacks of chip and pin.

ouch...

It might be one of those tampered cash mashines where they take an impression from your card when you withdraw money, then they makea copy, not sure how they get the pin though?

Hope the bank sorts you out quick, i hate it when this stuff happens :(

DEMAND your bank gives you a free temporary overdraft to cover all direct debits/standing orders that go out of your account until they credit your money back...

I suppose it could be anything really, scoobs how do you tell if there's a device on a cash machine? Is that where you run your finger across the card slot??

I know I'll get the money back, its just a whole loads of hassle waiting for it all to go through, and they've had to up my overdraft which will just end up getting me in more debt

I have goen through all the procuedures, of contacting the bank etc

The ones I've seen are like a little black box attached to the bit where your card goes in, although I think they can vary - if you weren't looking for it you could think it was part of the design of the cashpoint. Now if i'm not entirely sure I won't use the cashpoint.

I think my bank might have had some pictures on their website a while ago. i'll see if I can find them.

Eastern European imigrants working at the post office intercepted a new credit card bound for me (i'd lost mine) and spent £12k on it a couple of months ago   At least the bank noticed something wrong and informed me/cancelled it before they spent any more! SCUM!!!

Under the Direct Debit Guarantee you are entitled to all monies paid out in direct debits by making an Indemnity Claim.

They HAVE to put the money back into your account. It's your right and they cannot refuse.

You'll have to pay it back of course but it will give you some cash to tide you over

Those fronts/covers that go on the cash machines are getting really good (bad reallyi guess) now, they're covering the whole front area now, not just the card bit so it's really hard to tell it's a false one

Thanks for the advice people.

I cant believe these people, and no doubt they get away with it? Do you know if anything happened to those who done that with your credit card N8?

Well i instantly blamed Eastern europeans working at the post office, loads of peopel told me not to be so judgemental/racist etc....then a month later front page news in the local paper was "Eastern European gang arrested for stealing credit cards at local Royal mail depot" They were taking 70+ every day

I'm always right, me.

They'll probbaly just be given some more benefits and nicer houses

I suppose its best to use a cash machine inside a bank??

Yep, or get cash from Tesco/wherever as Cashback when buying other things...
