Again! I know I know

Just a quicky - how long would it take roughly for me to drive from Glasgow to Fort William? And would it be safe to do this in a small-ish car (i.e a Corsa). Just thinking of all them mountain roads and everything! Don't want to fall off! 8O

Becki,

Not quite sure about length of time, but a small car will be fine. From my estimations, Fort William cant be that far a drive from Glasgow.

When will you be there?
  hee hee just made me laugh out loud! Purely as on most of the roads up there you are at the bottom of the mountains so you can't fall anywhere ;)

Should take around 3 hours I think.

Fort William has excellent cable cars. You can go up and have your dinner at the top :D http://www.nevisrange.co.uk/summer/

I'm there from 5-8 January. Not booked any accom yet but we want to stay near-ish Fort William coz it'll be gorgeous that time of year! I think its about a 3 hour drive away. I just wanted to check whether it was driveable in a small car because I didnt want to be driving up slippery mountains in January 8O

Only one thing to consider maybe, and maybe Angie could help?...

...some roads quite regularly get blocked with snow over this side of Scotland around that time of year, not sure if thats the case though over Fort William way?
One of your biggest problems could be snow. Roads up that way are first to close. Just keep an eye on weather before you go.

Given the dodgy climate changes though you may well get a tan

ha ha ha, just what I just wrote

Hmm... I think I'll drive anyway, hopefully the roads will be clear that weekend 8O

Or we could get a train, that takes 4 hours :? (Why is that longer?)

Becki, train could be a good bet if the weather is bad. Really not sure why its longer, is there any stops etc?

only a guess, but would imagine that it will stop at all wee places on the way up as there route to the outside world! Often find trains are longer.

To be honest if a car's not getting up a train won't either. But don't worry sure it will be fine :D

I wasn't aware there were trains up to Fort William. Think they stop at Inverness.

An alternative would be to hire a jet pack and fly instead.

Well we dont make the most of our sister countries do we? They're some of the most beautiful places in the world :P

I might aswell make the most of our local tourism while I'm skint, then go to all those fancy faraway places when I'm a rich business woman
