This summer Sankeys Soap in Manchester is celebrating a decade at the top as one of the UK's best loved clubs. For this summer only they will be dropping the Tribal Sessions and Red Light nights and instead celebrating Sankeys Soap name; heralding a venue that has meant so much to clubbers not only in Manchester, but from all over the country. The 10th birthday will not be celebrated on just one night, but over ten weeks of parties.
It's going to be one long party in the heart of Manchester... a summer-long Sankeys carnival! Sankeys say:
"This time it's all about Sankeys ? about an old deserted Soap factory in Ancoats that scrubbed up so well it became one of the most loved stomping grounds in the land for the UK's party people. With Sankeys giving a real focus on production at the club over the 10th Anniversary, the whole place is going to be converted back into a Soap Factory! There will also be some really cool twists on some of the events, and even barbecues and afternoon sessions included in the programme, which should all add to making this period feel really special..."
Kicking off on June 26th, the likes of Dimitri from Paris, Darren Emerson, Sasha, Erick Morillo, Francois K, Derrick Carter and Groove Armada will all play at one of these special parties, not to mention some new faces like Miguel Migs and old Sankeys favourites like Bugged Out. Festivities will culminate on the August Bank Holiday, when Mike Pickering and Graeme Park will reunite in Manchester for a very special Hacienda re-union.
Promoter Sam Kandel had this to say:
"The last ten years have gone too quickly on Jersey Street. Since the doors of Sankeys were first flung open in 1994 (and then re-opened once again in September 2000, the tens of thousands of people that have passed through her doors have all had their own unique experiences. In a way, it's tempting to reel off lists of DJ's and artists that have performed at the club over the last ten years, but somehow it doesn't seem the right place. This moment is about so much more than the man behind the turntables... It's about two generations of Manchester music lovers scurrying down a deserted Ancoats street on the eastern edge of the city centre every Friday and Saturday night, huge vacant buildings towering either side of them, moving towards an excited queue of people, just like them. The Anniversary is a fantastic landmark in what has been a rather epic ten year journey for Sankeys. That legendary atmosphere is going to be cranked up a couple of extra notches for the 10th Anniversary."
