I was in San An on Saturday night and couldn't help but notice there seemed to be alot of non english speaking people about, spanish, german, french, italians etc.

This i thought was a good thing, but was it a one off night or have other people noticed it? it was once was about 90% english, but seemed to me only 60% english.

what do you guys think?

I was there last week and noticed same thing. I think there is much more international crowd on the island overally too. 8)

The Changing Face of San An

Why do so many people miss the point that San An has so much more to offer, from the port area of San An where you can sit and eat at Vila Mercerdes, or Bel Sito or several other eateries, and watch the world go by, looking at the lights across the bay, grab a cocktail at the Pussy Cat Bar, Plastik, and you won't find any Brits in either Lola's or La Noche, just locals and the more adventurous types, situated at the top end of Calle Colon (isn't that in the West End, I hear people cry). Take your blinkers off and go have a wander around San An, avoid the things you don't like, but if it looks interesting pop in, and you might be surprised at the warm welcome, and the size & price of the drinks compared to Ibiza Town bars.

Re: The Changing Face of San An

I think so... it has been steadily changing that way over the last 3/4 years. apart from the 2 streets we all know about i think its getting better as a resort.

Good points, well made. :D

when I was there recently I did notice a lot more international ppl than previous years but I wouldn't go so far as to say cosmpolitan !

well said, couldnt agree more.

Yeah I agree with this to. Was there for a day a couple of weeks ago, and it did seem much better imo.

Down at Mambo's etc (where there were previously still quite a few 'beer boys etc), the crowd seemed far more cosmopolitan.

Can only be a good thing

as far as i'm concerned cosmopolitan is a neutral adjective meaning simply 'having many nationalities involved'

hence san antonio is as cosmopolitan as santa eulalia and as ibiza town.

for others cosmopolitan is as loaded an adjective as say, civilised, meaning urbane, chic, sophisticated etc etc in which case san an isn't as cosmopolitan as a small area of ibiza town (about the same size as the west end) where more monied tourists flock. i go there myself, but i'd soon be bored to tears if that's all there was to ibiza, it's a bit like staying in the sheraton - you could be anywhere in the world.

i'm happy that san an is different to ibiza, to santa eulalia, to all the other small towns it gives a bit of variety and i get as much pleasure people watching in the west end as i do in the plaza del parque or the marina botafoch or sitting in a patiserie in jesus.

Ibiza Town is more sophisticated than san An, Sta Eularia just because it houses a big gay community

Well thats part of it but also you generally get older people there, the bars are chic and stylish, it attracts celebs,it has nice buildings, designer shops, lots of reasons why it's considered cosmpolitan, not just the poofs !

I just meant it's seen as more sophisticated when there are older people about - i don't mean pensioners, I mean the older clubbing crowd, san antonio just seems to be full of kids.

phew. that's okay then. it's just that my mother in law has just arrived back from line dancing in san agustin and is wittering away about illnesses in the background.

what makes you think clubbers are sophisticated by the way?

You see more nationalities in ibiza Town and fashion is way better than San An and football jerseys 8)
