REMIXES AND EDITS OF POP SONGS

Was it Radioslave or Aphex Twin or maybe both who did weird remixes of pop tunes which bore no relation to the original?

This is cheeky.

them and about x hundred thousand other people...

people have been remixing other people's music for over 40 years... but what has changed is that you used to walk into a record store and ask "have you got that FK or carl craig remix of xyz?" - because there was a real buzz about it either through radio or the clubs whereas now soundcloud is just swamped with crap remixes with no value whatsoever - this was confirmed to me when I stumbled across a dubstep version of aled jones 'walking in the air' - trying to sift through the crap to find the nuggets really is a thankless task, so I don't bother anymore.

a bit of an open-ended thread really - we're all coming at it from different angles

my 'go to' pop remixers from the 80s/early-90s were people like:

  • Ben Liebrand
  • DMC
  • Paul Oakenfold
  • Youth
  • Nellee Hooper
  • William Orbit
  • Nile Rogers
  • Trevor Horn
  • Andrew Weatherall
  • Norman Cook
  • Steve Proctor
  • Sure is Pure
  • Def Mix
