Recruitment Consultants...

Is anyone on here a recruitment consultant (perhaps in the financial services sector), or has previously been one?

If so - what's it like? Is it a funking nightmare, or does the money make it worthwhile?

ive always found "creative" recruitment consultants a waste of time...

might be different in yr sector tho.

My girlfriend is!! She makes good money but it is hard, she's constantly calling people and Monday morning is hell with temps calling in sick etc, but all up she likes it, shes dead busy at the mo because her company has the "fortnam & masons" contract, ie she places all the call centre staff who sort the xmas hampers, but inn answer to your question, it's hard...very hard sometimes but the money is good when you get results. If sge places someone(temp) she gets a whack in comission if they go temp to perm she gets 5% of the starting salary as a lump sum!!! (or sommat like that)

I was one for 8 days 8O  You've got to be really hard and I'm no good at that  Financial Services is really tough area cos there's so much competition, it's really cut-throat. Yay the money can be really good but the hours are really long and it's all targets targets targets.

It's really easy to get into, I sent my CV to a few agencies and even I got interviews with them all and quite a few job offers but it's cos they have such turnover of staff which says something about the job.

I also tried it and hated it. Cold calling is so demoralising. :( But I also know people who do the job and really thrive on it. I suppose it depends on your personality.

Hmmm, sounds like a job for me. There's nothing worse than lying in bed all day trying to think of a few records to play that evening - the pressure is intense.

Anybody got any contacts so i can change my career and realise a dream?

hence my missus...she aint normal....!!

I think the clue is in the words "my & missus"

thanks for the comments...I've interviewed for a couple of jobs recently, but am concentrating on the financial sector - that is, placing candidates in investment banks and financial institutions in the City. Obviously these people are earning a lot of cash, and the recruiters cut reflects that.

I'm in media sales at the moment, so it would be quite a big move for me, (although I am used to targets and cold calling and stuff) but the $$ is very appealing....but I'd just like to get an idea of how hardcore it will be before making a decision.

really - who do you work for at the mo?

is that like conferences? - I've heard the money's really good in that sector.

at the moment I work for Guardian Media (Manchester Evening News)

im going to be working for Emap on a show called Interbuild, it happens every 2 years @ NEC, apparently it's really big, they've entrusted me with making it bigger 8O

I've worked in Recruitment for years.
I'm a Director of a Recruitment Company, which i set up several years ago.

Love it. Tough when you start, but fantastic rewards. And there's so many cowboys around, if you're good you'll soon rise to the top.

Cool. What sector do you specialise in?
Is the industry bouyant at the moment?

Have you any advice on what to look for when deciding on which company to work for?

cream always rises to the top!!! cheesy but true, obviously the cream aint cheesy......unless it's old cream!! :?

I specialise in Technical Recruitment for the Construction Industries. Architects, etc.

I would probably work for a large established company at first as the training ia usually very good. Then I'd take my skills across to a smaller firm where the commissions and levels of autonomy are usually higher!

I would definately go for it. It's one of the few industries where you can truly earn as hard as you work.

If you want to be unable to sleep at night due to stress and work with complete cretins, I'd say go for it.

  exactly

I'm jobhunting at the moment, and went to an agency last night. Some of the people I've had recruiting for me have been really nice, but others have been total idiots
