Pacha in London will launch a brand new night called 'Gate 21' this Friday. As the name suggests the night will take you on a journey, not particular a musical journey, as it takes a destination to be the theme of the evening.

Every month Pacha will pick a new destination, and with Italy being chosen for this month, expect Defected's Junior Jack & Kid Creme to flew in the hype and some glamourous Italian style of house music!
Along with 'Gate 21' Pacha in London plays hosts for other nights including Hed Khandi, Kinky Malinki, the soon to be launched Trust Me and Voyage, and GBH which stands for "Great British House" but is originally a concept launched in NYC. Last weekend, GBH teamed up with purveyors of erotica - Hustler - for a New York flavoured decadence and debauchery at Pacha. Get your ticket ready for next month! (03/29/04)

Pacha london was wicked when it first opened, fri and sat nights were really good. Now they're just corporate whores who let anyone put on a night

Ditto.

This new Friday venture doesn't sound bad and a lot better than some of the dross they have on a Saturday night  but it's too little too late imo. They could have done so much with that club but first they have School Disco there on Fridays, then that UK Garage night  They've both flopped so they're trying to go back to their roots but it's too late, people are bored with Pacha these days, the $hit they put on there and the attitude they have.

sounds like The Tunnel up here

was legendary but then sold off when Big Beat went under...
...turned it into an urban venue with 100% urban fridays...eventually they put on cheesy pop in the back room to try and get more folks in..

t'other week they started a new house night in the back room..actually rather good...Hed Kandi-ish

why must they tamper with the music policy in these places???

yeah, they also let a promoter put on a night for like 2 months or something then kick them out and try anohter one, and so on.....if a night has a couple of weeks thats not so busy then its bye bye sorry you didnt make us enough money, whos next to line our pockets.....

I've lost track of the number of 'residencies' they've had on a Friday night there  Residencies being used in the loosest sense of the word, ie. they had 2 consecutive weeks/months there :P

the only good sat night that i've been to apart from in the first six months it opened was norman J's night......dont even think they still have that :( Hed kandi and all their drones probably make them more money i guess

Pacha sucks end of  I can't believe I was so looking forward to it opening when it did, I even spent 2 NYE there and it's got steadily worse and worse, it's now one-step up from a glorified Ritzys

Poor Rob, he tried to tell us some Pacha news and we both go off on an anti-Pacha rant  ;)

He wont do it again ;) :P

Def not much better than a glorrified ritzty, except at least ritzy doesnt pretend to be something it isnt!

Anything thats a franchise just goes to shit in the end doesnt it....

I might start an alliance against franchised clubbing

See my posts passim in various threads re London based DJs not known anywhere else who knock out this week's top ten 'funky house' tracks week after week.

A couple of these nights a month in London - great - some entry level 'pop house' to make the scene (yes, I know how wanky that sounds) accessable to those without a house background. But trying to present it has anything other than that, and doing it everyt Friday and Saturday in 3 or 4 London clubs do me a favour.

Each of these nights pops up with different branding and no-one realises that 90% of 'em are run by the same promoter.

Blood now boiling, determination to do something of worth and not rip people off resolved!

I blame the A-List - you should see the numer of emails they bombard me with and they are all for the same sort of nights with the same DJ's week in, week out.

Totally agree with Buckley and everybody elses comments on Pacha are spot on too.

Best cancel my plans for So.....nationwide in allegiance with Mecca Ballrooms, then. For £30K you get some poor photocopied DJ booking form, a Buckley plastic wig (like the elvis ones, y'now), a life size Barbie cut-out in stalking pose (complete with purple swollen ankle). Each week you pay me £500 to download the top ten records bought from 'Buckley Vocal Funky Trash Emporium' which you play along with a hologram DJ. Note that your DJ needs no aptitude, selection ideas or ability to read a room.

If numbers dwindle at all, invite a 4 seperate promoters to host the same room and pay them to do so on a pay per head basis using a 'concession' guestlist (which is of course no cheaper at all). Obviously, make yourself scarce when all four promoters, plus the 4 DJs they've brought each realise they have 5hrs deck time between 16 DJs!

All which is why I can't wait for Ministry - proper dealings with a propoer club who actually care about musical policy as well as numbers. Should note that RF are also great to deal with.

I thangew. (and yes, the stuff in the 2nd paragraph does go on, week, in week out)

Can you put me on the concessions list for MOS, please.

I can. Really.

Ministry also run a per head deal - but its a fair one (not the 10% of entrance for your punters some run!) and we have a full line up in the Baby Box.

The per head thing itself is fair enough - you get these opportunities because you convince a club you can pull a crowd. If you're not bluffing, no reason you should baulk at being paid by your performance.

So......that's you on the list.

Seriously folks, its important, for the future of So.....that you do put your names on the list and use that list place to get in, So......we demonstrate our pull. That's the point you were trying to make, wasn't it Ben ;)
