NIE info please

Hey,

I heard stories a few years ago of people going to the police station really early in the morning to get their NIE sorted...is this still true?

Second question is once you have filled out all the paper work, how long is it before you can get your NIE number or can you get it there and then?

dont know what it stands for but its a licence to work,flyering etc
