How is this justified. My missus went overdrawn by £30 over several transactions in one day and these slimey corporate shhlags see that as a prime opportunity to charge her £170.

OK she should have kept tabs on her account abit better but charge her £170 smackers for a small slip up. Abbey National. Hang your capitalist bloodsucking heads in shame. xxxxing thieving scum

Rant Over and Out

They sometimes reverse this if you call up and politely say it was an innocent mistake/can replace the funds instantly/promise not to do it again and most importantly will feel compelled to close the account if the money is taken.

...Especially if you dress it up with an "I've been a loyal customer for x years" spiel. I've done it with Natwest countless times. ;)

As Robder said, ring them up, apologise, you didn't realise it had happened and you hope that they'll retract (sp??) the extortionate overdraft charge.

If they start playing funny games then tell them you'll take your loyal custom elsewhere. They do this all the time to try and get money out of people but once they start thinking they're going to lose your business they'll quickly change their minds.

It's definitely worth a quick phone call/letter ;)

I always write to my bank and explain, sometimes it works....however, as recently as last week, I was in the middle of nowhere on a sat afternoon, drew out £150 from a link machine, then realised that a chq i wrote that week hadnt yet cleared, went to my back first thing on the monday morning, so i was over my limit for approx 1 hr (assuming it goes from 9am) paid in enough to bring me back in, but the fookers still stung me £30  fookin c**ts hope they have a shite xmas!!!!

Ring them up and if they won't refund it ask to close all accounts with them there and then. Particularly effective if you have mortgages, loans etc with them.

barclays charge me £10 for each time I go over my limit, up to a maximum of £30 in one month, so it's not so bad.

happens every month though

I don't think I've overdrawn my bank account since the late 1990s.

Sometimes it took a bit of discipline but now I always keep an untouchable cushion in my debit card accounts.

Lloyds charge you £30 for each overdrawn DD that they try to take out

Banks really are robbing bastards!!
not to me they don't. If I ever go over my overdraft limit they just put it up and ring me to let me know they've done it :P

You probably have good credit  they even took my credit card off me  . Only have a £100 buffer on my overdraft and i dont want anymore than that from past experience

I will make an appointment with them though to have another one as its been a couple of years now and i want to transfer the balance from my egg card.

I went over my OD limit before with a direct debit and got charged £35 even tho the DD was only £25 and over by about £4! I phoned em up and they deducted the charge as it was my first time. I did it again with two direct debits on the same day a few months later and they charged me £70... I phoned em up and got it reduced to £35 which was better than nothing i spose.

I would defo phone em up sooner rather than later.
