My review in a few lines

Regarding the clubbing scene: Terrible! Worst than ever! Absolutely decadent! Very few places are good value actually. I would only save the gay area, Figueretas and very few different places scattered away from the busiest areas. And the beaches of course.

Space people makes Space a big piece of sh*te despite it's bigger than ever, and doesn't even worth the 1/3 part of its price. Rowdiest people than ever (big fight in last Matinee including flying bottles, glasses and even stools!), fights are usual on the surroundings of Space and Bora-Bora (we saw a rude girl throwing a full bottle of Fanta to a drunk guy near that formerly classy bar called Passion). Saw two kids trying to rob the people at the terraces in Plaza del Parque. Just after being warned, the two kids left the place walking with such a calm expression in their faces!

Total decadence, big amounts of kids, dickheads, riffraff, vulgar and rude people..... It's getting worse and worse in exponential terms.

Will this go on until nobody bothers going to Ibiza? People (locals, promoters, club owners, bars, politicians, etc) must do something. It's not by far what it used to be anymore.

Forgot to mention the rude ice cannon guy on stilts with that mask on in Space. I didn't see him coming and he kicked me nastily to move away! Bastard!

gee... you don't sound like a happy camper!

Where is the gay 'area'? :?

Where did you go aside from Space? better luck next time!

I sounded too harsh in the previous posts, but I had just got back from Ibiza and in general terms I felt very disappointed in the general situation of the clubbing scene this year. I had in general a very good time in gay bars and I met again old friends, but I can't help feeling this way just after seeing how's Ibiza losing its way.

FYI: The gay bars are located mainly along a street which is parallel to the harbour, calle de la Virgen, and around Dome, Angelo, Soap,... there're also gay places in Figueretas, and in Dalt Vila (Anfora Disco). Anfora sounds like a better choice for a gay as we gay people feel more unconfortable in big clubs year after year (not just me, but also many gay people I know) because even the gay parties in big clubs (Matinee, Troya, etc) are too straight nowadays, and not as gay-friendly as in the past. Anfora is a good place depending on nights (some don't worth going), not a rip off definitely. And there's this other new gay club called Babylon, formerly the after-hours Lucifer, and some gay night in this club Love.

okay then, lets concentrate on the positive aspects..... tell us about your favourite bars. also, i bet some of people would be interested in finding a bit more about "new" venues like soap or babylon as we havent had any review about them yet!!

ok so my review about the gay bars and clubs. We go every year to J.J. Bar, almost at the end of calle de la Virgen. They're friends of us. Nice people there always. Walking along this street is always nice to enjoy part of the island charm. Pretty busy in August this street and Dome's area, but not as much as the bars along the harbour below, which I saw busier than in previous years. Another casual stop at Irwin's Leon almost in front of JJ, and our next stop use to be Angelo. We prefer to get inside, not on the ground terrace because it's always too crowded. We had a little disappointment when we intended to go upstairs to their fabulous and beautiful terrace on the flat roof to have one 'mojito' while enjoying the views. Now this part of the place is only a restaurant and it's closed at nights. :(

Finally, we were three times to Anfora. Two were planned, the other one was after running away from a revolting Space after just an hour inside. Anfora was always busy, the first night wasn't very good actually, in fact some nights are boring, but the second one, a monthly special party with a DJ from a well-known after-hours in Barcelona called Lokotron who plays techno and tech-house, was a superb night, besides we met a lot of friends. The third time was very nice. Even though it was Madonna's night, the DJ Monique 69 played every 15 minutes some remix of some song by Madonna, or some original song by her, and good house music inbetween. I know some people look down on this club, but even though is much smaller than the biggest clubs, it's still a beautiful club with that strange dancefloor in a real cave, it has a very nice sound system, a very beautiful moroccan style chill-out area, many tables to sit and chat, and if you don't like 'dark rooms' you just don't step into the 'cruising' area.

We didn't go either to Babylon nor Love, so I can't rate them. I know Love has some gay nights including after-hours but someone told us this club isn't getting enough crowd, maybe he was wrong but that's bad news in my opinion. I always liked the underground and alternative clubbing scene in Ibiza. About Babylon, some locals told me there're too many man whores there, but I'm not sure how right they are.

About the rest of the clubbing scene, the most famous, the big clubs, I have to say that it's losing its way unfortunately. The gay places saved our stay. We used to love the big clubs. Not this year at all.

you shouldve just kicked him back. he'd soon be sorry as he plummeted into the crowd.

my friends in the north east would often tell me of how stilt walkers couldn't take part of any ibiza-type/style club nights, cos there was too many crazy bastards trying to rugby tackle 'em.

3 grumpy gays and a flying stool......8O

8O  Well done!!!
Wicked post!   Nearly fell off my chair.

...

I don't like violence and thieving w*nkers any more than the next person but I think I'd rather spend a Sunday at Space than Anfora.

But maybe that's just me. :?

I've been going for years and thought the general atmosphere in Ibiza was no different to my first visit in '99.

The place is tacky as hell in some ways, classy in others and completely corrupt too. But isn't that why we love it? 8O

Sad to hear that you had a miserable holiday. Thankfully the threads about how great Ibiza is and the happy times people enjoy each year outweigh those of a downbeat nature by hundreds to one.:)

You haven't read my next posts, so don't be fool. My first one was my opinion on the big clubs, the most famous part of Ibiza, not about my stay and fun on Ibiza. I enjoyed the beaches as much as the first time as well as the gay places we use to visit. Anyway, maybe it's my age and I don't feel confortable to be surrounded by so many young people, or rather, in previous years there was quite a bigger proportion of not so young people. That's a real fact.

maybe its the fact that you keep talking about everything in 'gay or non gay' terms, could it be that you are not open minded enough.....?
