Here is my long review of my 4th trip to the white island….. my first trip with my girl friend, LT. All that I can say is, Ibiza is still sick as hell!!!! We spent two days in Barcelona and 5 in Ibiza…..here is the run down.
Friday July 15
Landed in Barcelona…..checked into the hotel and did some sight seeing…..Las Ramblas, the port…..then off to Catwalk for Martin Solveig at night…
Prior to leaving, I emailed Catwalk for a guest list. We get to Catwalk around 2, and it is mobbed outside. People are getting turned down left and right….I walk up to a bouncer, and show him the email from Angel at Catwalk, and he walks me and LT right in. Great night, not a typical Defected night….Martin Solveig played a good amount of “non-defected” tracks…..I was pretty drunk, so I cant say that I remember many tracks. But, I did hear ‘Pump Up the Jam’ for the first time…..the first of many times. Solveig also, obviously played ‘Everybody’ during which LT said “this sounds like a Lenny Kravitz song” I looked at her like she was crazy, 2 seconds later, he played ‘Are you gonna go my Way?’ by Kravitz…..prob the only song of the night that I wasn’t crazy about, but the crowd went nuts. Later on he dropped Blackbox – ‘Everybody’ All in all a great start to the trip.
Saturday July 16
The tourist day…..roamed the streets. Visited the Picasso Museum, really took in the city….and went out to dinner at a good seafood restaurant. Barcelona was awesome…wish that we had more time.
Sunday July 17
Landed at 1PM in Ibiza……from the hotel (Jet Apts) straight to We Love….. my first trip in 2002, the first song that I heard was Shakedown – At Night….every time that I hear it, I think Ibiza. Well, as we walk into Space, A-Studio – SOS (Skylark mix) is the first track that me and LT hear….one of our fav tracks. I don’t know who was on at the time, but he was really good…..heard ‘Pump Up the Jam’ for the second time. Jonathan Ulysses came on at about 4, and tore it up, played ‘My B*tch’ and was really feeling the crowd. But, this day for me was all about Howells…..I finally get my hands on a set list and NO HOWELLS LISTED!!!! I start flipping out, as I leave I talk to every single Space employee asking if Howells is on….well, the New Terrace was not listed on the set lists. I am told that Howells will be on at 10. We leave Space. Head back to the hotel for some lunch, my buddy Pepe is working at Moorea Beach, he hooks me and LT up with free passes to In Bed at Space. Around 9 we head to Tantra for a couple of drinks before Howells, we run into Mario who sorts us out with some tickets to Circo Loco and Release Yourself. We hear ‘Pump Up the Jam’ for the third time. Get into Space around 10….the new terrace is not an open air terrace, but it ROCKS!!!! Except for one major exception, no Howells, and if that isn’t bad enough, Groove Armada was stinking the joint up….do they know that music has been made since last year? Do they know that Superstylin is a terrible song? We roamed the club, ended up in the Red Room for NastyDirtySexMusic, Smokin Jo and tim Sheridan were nasty, great set…..around 12 we head back to the terrace, Armada are finally almost done. Man they suck. Next guy up, not Howells, no clue who he was, but he played a solid set…..around 1, I see Howells in the DJ booth, but not on the decks. At 2, Tania Vulcano steps up….I love Tania V. but it had been a long day. We stayed for about an hour and left. Anyone know what time that Howells went on????
Monday July 18
Got to DC 10 around 3, whoever was on was a little too techy for us…..but LocDice went on, 2 years running, this guy was my biggest surprise, nasty stuff…..he shouldn’t be a surprise anymore, this guy is the real deal. After his set, we headed back to the hotel Chilled by the beach and Bora Bora for a while, heard Anthony Acid – ‘Sweat’ great Bora Bora track, and Haji & Emanuel ‘Take Me Away’…..grabbed a bite to eat, LT had some salmon…..around 12:30 we head to Rock Bar for some drinks, LT says her stomach is killing her, no drinking yet either. We get back to the room around 1:15, she tells me that she aint gonna make it out, that the food didn’t agree with her and she needed to sleep. I felt terrible because Sanchez is her fav. DJ. I talk her into seeing how she is in an hour. 2:15 she is feeling a little better and roughs it out. We get into Pacha and Sanchez is rocking David Vendetta – I live for Now…when he gets to “New York, London, Paris, Ibiza” and rocks IBIZA IBIZA IBIZA, crowd is going nuts and LT is looking like she isn’t gonna make it….we find a spot on a railing looking over the crowd, the S-Man is on the mic, then he drops the Steve Angello mix of Robbie Rivera – One Eye Shut, mid way thru the track, LT is dancing it up and she says “I have seen Sanchez twice, sober both times, he must be amazing when you can have a couple of drinks” before the night was over she said drunk or sober, the S-Man is unreal. He dropped some sick tracks, highlights were: Tone Deaf mix of Inner City – ‘Good Life’, Coca & Villa – ‘La Noche’, Soul Providers – ‘Rise’ the HCCR mix of Morillo – Waiting in the Darkness, Tom Stephan ‘Dirty Filthy’…..oh and ‘Pump up the Jam’……LT said that she would come back to Ibiza just for Pacha…… Heard ‘Say Hello’ for the only time all week….but it was in the cab on the way home.
Tuesday July 19
After the burner on Monday, we decided to get some shopping done, go to dinner and call it an early evening. Had a good dinner at La Oliva…..LT also bought a 325 Euro dress for a wedding we have in November…..I don’t even want to convert that to US Dollars….but we were home an in bed at 2AM
Wednesday July 20
Up around 9AM……we remember that Pepe hooked us up with passes for in Bed with Space. So we troop over to Space, probably the only two people who didn’t carry over from the night before.

Chilled for an hour set by a German DJ (I think that Kid Chris was supposed to spin, but I am pretty sure that he is from NYC) good set, he played Bang Bang which made LT happy…..heard ‘Pump Up the Jam’ for the fifth time (are you counting) Jonathan Ulyssess came on at 11, played a great set….heard the original mix of ‘One Eye Shut’….around 11:45 Barbara Tucker came on, me and LT are right near the stage when she says “I came all the way from New York City” me and LT raise our hands, and she points to us and says hi. After she finishes her 3rd song she comes over to me and LT and chats with us, she lives about 20 min from where we do in Brooklyn, she asks where we are going that night, I tell her Pacha. She does 3 more songs, a great version of ‘Precious Love’….after that set she gives me and LT her phone number and tells us to call her and she will sort us out with a guest list. We get in touch with her during the day, and that night she got us into Pacha for free…..a great day was set to be a great night. Went to Mambo for dinner, the food was terrible, but the sunset was awesome. Met Morillo as we left Mambo. Got into Pacha at 2:30, Josh Wink was on, not mine or LTs music, so we chilled in the hip hop room. Got back into the main room at 4, as Morillo went on……why cant he play like this in NYC???? He opened with Solveig – ‘Everybody’, dropped B. Tucker – Precious Love, which sounded great. Guess what? He played 'Pump Up the Jam' But, he was working too….played the ‘So Many Times’ vocal over a crazy beat…..Herd & fitz – Just Cant Get Enough……then the song of the trip for me, he dropped the opening to Red Carpet – ‘Allright’ but played the vocal for Kings of Tomorrow – ‘Finally’, before playing all right….SICK. Later on he played Funkytown and Metallica – Enter Sandman (not my scene, but at least he was playing something dif. taking some chances) later on he dropped Rachel Starr – Till there was you…..then me and LT had one foot out the door, when he dropped the HCCR mix of ‘Waiting in the Darkness’…..we ran back in, sick track!!! Great way for us to end the night.
Thursday July 21
Last day…..chilled by the beach all day. A little Bora Bora action. The dinner at Dalt Villa. Got into the cab and asked the driver to take us to Dalt Villa, I had no clue that Dalt Villa was not just a restaurant, so the driver took us to the top of the castle where me and LT saw a great view, and went for a long walk thru the cathedral, before getting to the restaurant and having the best dinner of the trip. Saw that Howells was Deep Dishs special guest at Pacha, thought about going to make up for Sunday……but with the 9AM flight, we thought better of it, and called it a night (and the mess that we went thru at the airport, it’s a good thing that we did)
All in all a sick trip……pics coming soon.
Friday July 15
Landed in Barcelona…..checked into the hotel and did some sight seeing…..Las Ramblas, the port…..then off to Catwalk for Martin Solveig at night…
