money

is this excluding your accomodation, car hire costs?

are you dayclubbing and nightclubbing every day and are you a big drinker?

Hotel has already been paid for. We haven't given much thought to hiring a car. We were thinking taxis and the local transit system. Definitely clubbing at night, not so much during the day. I plan on doing drinking at the hotel, or at a pub before the clubs.

The way you have described your activities, you will end up spending around $600 +/- 10%. This includes some memorabilia you will end up purchasing when you are there.

The Euro rules on the island, and last time I checked the conversion rate was about 1.75-1.85 Euro to 1.00 American dollars? Just estimate conservatively and double the price of whatever Euros you spend to match your US bank account. It is always good to overestimate and save cash EARLY because your account usually ends up pleasantly when you get home. It is a huge effort (and well worth it, I might add :)) for us USA peeps... I found a phenomenal flight for $913 and that was after two days of searching.

Your spending depends upon what you want to do... if you're a big club head then you'll spend a great deal more than someone who is out for the fab sight seeing. But again... it all depends on what your style of vacation is. Let us know what you're in to and we can help further. Anyone who wants to know... I send them here. This site is by far the best advice out there for all things Ibiza... these people know what they are talking about in many areas, whether it be DJ's, clubs, sight seeing, history etc. It is all here. 8)

Just a note Pete, I wouldn't rely on public transport... definitely hire a car.

Depending on how much you drink, this can drastically change your budget

Ok, first of all, the rate is $1.21 to 1 Euro
(PG where did you find that exchange rate???!!!)

Don't take cash. Take your Visa or MasterCard debit card and you'll be fine as there's plenty of bank machines around. Restaurants also take credit cards.

I think a good budget is around $75-90/day per person for non-clubbing days and $150-180/day for clubbing days.

There's several assumptions in that (1 meal a day in a restaurant, at least one $35-45 club ticket, a few drinks, 1 beach chair rental, etc.). This is approximately what I spent last year. You can live on more or less, of course... for example, you could eat cheaper (cafe, supermarket) and drink in the hotel or at a cheaper bar. On the flipside, you could drink a lot in the clubs (beer=$8-14, drinks=$14-20) and eat in nicer restaraunts.

If you want to rent a car, it's not expensive at all. I've booked mine for this June for about $25 a day (though I'll probably add the $7.25 insurance supplement). www.hispacar.com.

You can also do Ibiza on a tight budget dont forget. Some people think nothing of blowing well over a grand per week but where Im from thats a fair whack of money and as good as Ibiza is I can't justify that expenditure on partying. Im sure it probably puts a lot of people off Ibiza as well which is a shame considering their falling tourist figures (or am i mistaken?).

Id say Morb's pricing seems about right, or close enough to how Id spend my cash. Another tip is to research the nights that are on. For instance, if theres a few of the biggest nights on on one night, you may find a smaller brand with dirt cheap tickets. This happened with Viva! Fundacion last year when it went up against Cream and Deep Dish for the Thursday spot. Only risk of this, is that it may not be as busy at it is on one of the top nights. But 15E to get into Space and see Sasha, Lawler, Masielo, Omid, etc. is good going (as opposed to 50E for Pacha and Amnesia on Thursday). Carl Cox seems to be good value as well, although I haven't been myself.

Don't forget you don't NEED to go to a big club every night. I discovered Plastik in San An last year, and I'll be there every night Im not out reaching for the lasers. Cheap as chips and a quality venue. Gonna seek out Hush this year as well.

I’m definitely thinking about checking all these nights: Judgement Sunday, Manumission, possibly We Love Space, Carl Cox is a must, possibly Subliminal, Cream, and Def Mix. We’re staying at the Apartment Bossa Mar, I believe which is relatively close to Bora Bora. Are any of the clubs close to this location? Can we get tickets at a discount rate through outlets? And if I were to use my credit card, would I get the exact exchange rate? Same goes an ATM. I have budgeted close to 300 American dollars a day so far, but I’ll also be in Amsterdam for a few days which I have to consider for. The transport thing is another issue I will have to do more research on.

  1. Between SA and Eivissa and where you will be staying you can just take the bus.
  2. $300/day is a lot of money for one person, unless you are planning on getting lap dances every day.
  3. Credit Card exchange rates are normally spot market rates. You can call you CC company to find out if there are any other charges involved. If there are any charges, they should be minimal. Do not take any TCs with you. CC works out best.
  4. Do not miss We Luv Sundays at Space. It is an experience you will never forget. The same pretty much goes for DC10.

Pete, what music do you like.. I seem to recall in one of your other posts, you ewre concerned about being a bit older... I would pick We love at Space over Judgement sundays then.. and I personally would pick Cocoon over Manumission.

You're right in that Carl cox is an excellent night.

Just a thought,, you can get a car hire for pretty reasonable rates.. and if you're taking a taxi more than once a day, it wil be be cheaper to rent a car... also, when trying to leave amnesia and pacha at closing times.. it can be a nightmare trying to get a taxi.if you plan on hitting the beaches in the other parts of the island, you can't really get there without a car.

btw. yo are staying in an excellent location, right next to Bora bora!

You can buy your tickets at the many bars in pdb which will be right near your hotel... and also in Ibiza town if you go in for dinner.. this is another reason to get a car.. makes it soo much easier to get around adn get to other plzces for dinner and drinks..

With 300 US a day you'll be laughing!

I would just use the ATM to withdraw money

Like others...and I have said... get a car.... really makes it worth it..
you can get a small economical car for around 20 euro a day... I think I paid just over 200 euro for 10 days last year..

Thanks for the tips Utaguara. Just a few more questions. I’m very much into the minimal, electro house sound currently; although my first love has always been driving progressive trance/house. I’m also very much into progressive breaks, deep/funky/tribal/acid house as well. We get in fairly Sunday morning; what times does We Love Space start? I personally would love to see Tiefschwarz over Judge Jules right now. I do like Techno, but a full night @ Cocoon might be a bit much. What type of music is usually @ Mannumission?

I would go to cocoon over manumission.. there will be two big rooms at Amnesia... not just banging techno..

Cocoon is my favourite night on the island by far.. I even plan my trips around getting two cocoon nights in.. if you are very into the minimal electro sounds.. then cocoon is for you... honestly its the best night in Ibiza.. an amazing night... I think Manumission get the big hype when overseas.. if I talk to any of my friends here.. if they know anything about Ibiza.. they all say. "oh yeah that Manumission night.. its famous!"...but no little about the better nights on the island.. Before I came to Ibiza, I had heard abou Manumission.... but I think it just because its one of the only club nights that gets talked about overseas..
have you checked out the lineups for Cocoon in the party calander on this page... I know I've said it before, but Cocoon is musically fantastic! and diverse.. especially if you love your minimal electro tech..

We love at Space is a 22 hour party, I would go to Space when you arrive... (when do you get there?) It starts at 8:00 am on Sunday and goes until 6:00 am on Monday morning... if you get there in the mid afternoon it will be fine.. and you will still be able to come out for a break and then go back in if you wish... its a fantastic atmosphere musical preferences... you'd be crazy to miss We love for Judgement Sundays...

I completely disagree with 'having to rent a car'. The public transport system to super cheap, and I've always found it very easy to get around.

Only rent a car if your planning on doing some serious exploring imo

I think a car is essential if you want to experience parts of Ibiza other than clubs/bars... there are some amazing beaches/views that can only be reached with your own car, and for how cheap it is, I really recomend it, it will give a chance to experience the Island on a whole different level...

sorry fergie.. but you can't get very far without a car, unless you're only going to some of the main beaches... most of the places I went to last yearm I certainly couldn't have gone without a car.. and you have to stick to the bus roads....

get a car, but bus to clubs

mind you id you are pdb, between friends, taxi's wont break the bank to amnesia, dc10 or ibiza town. you dont really have a reason to go to san-an, apart from visiting cafe del mar/ cafe mambo, which you should do at least once :)

Still don't think you 'need' a car. I've been 6 times now, and have never had a problem. Ok, I havent discovered all the lost places that many of you have, but a car is by no mean essential imo
