Can anyone in the know give me some advice?
Is it possible to have two different playlists on itunes? Dom's music is already loaded in our mac, but I can't work out how to upload the albums I want without all his music going on too.
:? :?

Err I think you can, I had this problem when I got Tom's ipod cos he said he didn't want all my Carter **** on his ipod   Jamie told me what to do but I didn't really understand it so he's going to come round and give me an IT lesson

Oh thats good. It's just mine is nano and only holds 1000 songs so I don't want Dom's 500 faithless greatest hits albums clogging it up.

I'll keep trying to figure it out.

One of the boys will know how to do it, I'm going to leave this thread and go and talk about Uggs or something what I know about

after my poor showing in the football thread I can offer some help here.

What you do is put one ipod in and set it to manual update, then the other one and set that to manual update too (it's in the settings section of itunes under the ipod tab)

Now you'll have to drag the songs you want on your ipod from the library into the ipod when you plug it in, it won't do anything automatically.

If he wants his to update automatically then he can leave his as it is, but he'll get all your music on his ipod too

easiest thing to do is go to www.apple.com and the support section and there'll be a bit on using 2 ipods. If there isn't the forums there will help you cos mac people are lovely little people.

I have to go to the pub now instead of being a computer forum weirdo :p

toodle loo babs, chat tomorrow

x

Babs - I'll try to pick up where Naddyz left off.

First, plug in your iPod. Then in iTunes open the "edit" menu (at the top) and choose "preferences". You'll see a tab that says "iPod".

Now, you should see an option to disable automatic synchronization of your iPod with the music library on your hard drive. Select that. Hit "OK".

OK, so your iPod is now set for manual updates. So, when you want to add new music to your iPod, you'll have to:
a) find the songs in your computer's iTunes music library
b) select them
c) drag them over to the iPod (you'll see an icon for it in the left column)

Does that make more sense?

sandi.

before you start, do NOT connect ipod (as it does an auto update as soon as its connected).

1. create your playlist(s)
2. goto - iTunes>preferences
3. select the ipod icon.
4. set this to manually update playlists, and check/uncheck what playlists you need/dont need.
5. plug in the ipod u want these playlists to go on.

another way u can do this is by creating 2 seperate accounts on your mac, which will allow you both access the programs, but will save music from each user in a seperate location.

this folder is found:

HD>USER>("account" user name)>MUSIC>itunes>iTunes Music (this is the location that itunes stores all MP3's created with iTunes.

once youve created your account, and if you need to copy an music that has already been ripped, then simply copy the files from one user folder to the other.

hope that makes sense.

Naddyz, Morbyd, Chewie. Thanks for all the tips, think I've nailed it now.

Babs, I who has a hamster running in it's wheel for a brain would never call anyone thick!
