on 4th july james holden will be playing at cocoon (sven väth is also playing that night).

never heard jh playing live - what sound does he play? isn't he more into progressive than techno? do you think it's worth going?

opinions please!

thanks. ;)

sounds very strange to me
holdens style as i know it
has nothing to do with techno
unless he made a radical change of style

mabey someone who heard him spin recently can enlighten us about it

i didnt expect to see it happen myself, but its not that strange considering the stuff holden plays these days. very techno/electro, with lots of minimal stuff in between

He's playing in the main room alongside Sven. Layo and Bushwacka and Arian 911 are playing on the "terrace" on that day.

Well Sven Vaith plays loads of house type stuff anyway.. I found his set in March, and last September (not to mention his latest cd) similar to that house Tim Sheridian (in some places) would play..

They're both similar styles anyway, it's just the crazy techno sound that makes them miles apart.

james holden is playing more minimal tech house now, a la steve bug. dunno if his mixing has improved. he is a pretty shit dj.

his mixing has improved vastly over the past few years, only thing that hasnt improved is him playing the same tracks for months on end, if u have heard him once u have heard him a thousand times (although i still enjoy going to see him as he doesnt play up in my neck of th woods that often)

I saw/hung out with him in Moscow a couple summers back. He was playing a more progressive sound then. I'm not sure what he's up to these days...recently picked up his Balance mix but haven't listened to it yet.

JH was in Loft club/ Lausanne 1-2 weeks ago. I agree he's more electro than techno.
Very surprised he does the main room for Cocoon.
Would go nice along Villlobos on the terrace.
Watch for Luciano, he's playing the terrace this year. Did DC10 last year; he's swiss/chilean based in Geneva. Great dj

I agree with you Moha. I was also in Loft club, it was more electro than techno.
But I have to say Holden was f*** good and his tracks selection was amazing !!! (perhaps one of the best and most original set I have ever heard in Loft)
For me, James in the main room for Cocoon could be a nice surprise.

Holden plays and produces electro/tech/acid these days. Very much along the lines of the minimal sound.

Coccoon has always been a mix of tech, electro, acid and tech house. It's never been exclusively techno.
