I Won't Return

Well what can I say, after 11 holidays dating as far back as 2000 and my latest last summer for radio 1.

I have experienced it all from the old days to the present and can confidently say that ibiza has lost it's vibe, it's all about money and I understand that things evolve and businesses thrive on the money but come on it's getting ridiculous.

I was glad last year that I got to experience the radio 1 20 year anniversary and also the 1st ever Creamfields which was amazing.

I won't be held to ransom over the drink prices any longer and I have experienced it all so I'm happy to leave it here, I'm going to miss it every year but It's time to let go of it and hand it over to the young one's who are destroying the island by the year. I'm sure ibiza will survive without me, as for me will i survive without ibiza, that remains to be seen.

Great memories

If I had gone to Radio One and Creamfields, I would be probably posting the same thing to be honest.

The drinks prices have always been high but in comparison to prices back home they are closer than they were in the nineties. I agree it is a rip off, but I am lucky if I have a bottle of water and maybe a shot when I am in a club so it doesn't really impact me. Why is this influencing your decision on coming back now?

You can still go to Ibiza and do things not related to dance music and /or parties. Lots to do and see, cracking beaches, good restaurants, the weather...plenty there to still enjoy without worrying about the commercialisation and the drink prices.

My last two visits i haven't set foot in a single club and had a great time. I get more excited thinking about visiting cool beaches and eating in nice restaurants these days, but i was aware of what was going on club wise in case i got the urge.

Probably should travel a bit more to other places but i imagine I'll always be planning the next visit in my head.

I think this year will be my last 'extended' trip (looking at 10 days to 14 days).
I want to go travelling around the USA and South America in 2017 and 2018, can't afford to do both if I do longer trips to the Ibiza. Cheeky weekends if I can afford it though, will be happening still.

Infact, as it will allow me to be more flexible, I can probably try and meet up with some of you guys out there. Haha

The way I see it, ibiza is cheap to book, flights, accommodation etc, yes the drinks and clubs may be abit high but with the money you've paid on flights etc, it evens itself out. Anyways once a year saving for a good blow out never hurt anyone. Anyways, radio 1....... Really??

Not any more tbh. Flights were criminally expensive last Summer and decent cheap available accommodation is getting harder to find in Season. Fuelling much higher up-front costs with high expenses on the ground means the whole thing has got far more expensive overall, especially for shorter trips where flights, car and hotel add up to a hefty outlay per night on average.

I think he's well within his rights to make his points. Times change and its not always for everyone, doesnt make any opinion wrong or right.
I agree with this....i too will be giving ibiza a miss this year for the first time in 25 years approx....we all change and get bored at some point.....and im a non clubber.

Nail on head.

Long gone are the £100 return flights, the cheaper hotels (south side anyway). Double everything than it was 5 years ago (estimate).

As for drinks prices, they could always be "managed" in one form or another. A bottle of SM in Pacha has been 12 euros for a long time now, in fact the last one I bought at the bar near the entrance lobby was 10 euros.

Funnily enough, go slightly out of main season (May/Oct) and it becomes very affordable with some niche parties on too. Food for thought.

I think you can get cheap flights, even in high season...but these need to be booked further and further in advance, which takes away any spontaneity and this was a big part of the appeal. Last summer you were looking at £200-£300 return for flights if you wanted a cheeky long weekend booked at short notice. Don't think I'll chance it this year...already got one trip booked and flights were dirt cheap so no biggie if I want to scrap/change/shorten, but will be looking to book cocoon and/or space closings as soon as details are announced.

Agree wholeheartedly though with the comments above - beaches, restaurants, and the all round beauty of the island are now as much a draw as the clubs for me now.

I was able to find flights from Scotland and a week's accomodation for £99 each all in for the first week in May, based on 2 sharing a decent looking hostal type thing in San An. By the time I was able to assemble the squad flights had gone up a wee bit, and we put it back a week for Medieval Festival, and took an airbnb apt in PDB, and a 2 night stay in Formentera it became a bit more expensive! But still all in I'd probably say around £200 each which was fantastic.

I suppose it depends on the kind of holiday you're looking for, if you don't really follow the music scene Ibiza is famous for and just want to get smashed on an 18-25 lads holiday, yes there are much cheaper places to go where the drinks are way more affordable and the club entry is about 90% cheaper...

But I've paid £250 for this summer, including flights and accommodation and for what I'm looking for that's an absolute bargain. I know I'll be listening to the music I want to, from my favourite DJ's, in the venues I want to be at. All in, expenses and everything per night, I'm looking at about £800 and you can't really argue with that considering the experience you get from going there.

As was said already, it's not for everyone. Those who get it, get it - but I'd recommend everyone try it at least once.
