Hi, the hotel I pre-paid to stay in from this Friday for 1 week is refusing to give a refund as they say that:

"The hotel is closed because international and non international flights are not allowed, if you could visit us on the 22nd May and the rest of the guest too, the hotel will be open."

Is this correct? I want to support Ibiza businesses, especially independent places and know times are difficult. They are offering me a voucher for use up to 2022 but I wonder whether I should just get a refund?

Thoughts?

erm so they say they are open? eh? I'm not sure I understand their message really.

and yeah, currently there's no way for you to come on holiday here (for your planned dates) and they know that.

I was confused too as I thought all hotels in Ibiza remained closed (until June at the earliest). So even if I lived in Ibiza, I couldn't stay there.

no, legally the hotels are actually now allowed to open (since we've moved into phase one). and that could be the trick - to say they are open so they do not have to pay actual refunds.

Ah, I understand. So I should probably just accept the voucher?

not sure clara, no legal specialist here. but in your case I know you'll be back on the island sooner or later so why not taking the voucher? that said I'm sure a refund wouldn't be wrong...

Option 1. If you paid with a credit card, send an email to then telling them you are requesting s full refund. If they do not comply within 48 hours you'll initiate a charge back with your cc company.

Option 2. Accept the voucher they are offering. If you do this be very careful and read all the terms and conditions. Most vouchers have a specific time frame you have to use them by or you lose them. Also, once you accept the voucher there will be no refund possible. Keep in mind - if you do receive a voucher and the hotel goes out of business before you can use your voucher you'll most likely be out your money.

If possible always grab a refund, but if you know you're going to be back soon q voucher probably wont be terrible, each situation is unique as are each person's needs.

After a long while shut, El Corsario in Dalt Vila has been taken over by La Torre del Canónigo, who refurbished it and renamed it as La Torre del Canónigo Petit Luxury Hotel :!:

Any news on when Hotel Arenal in San An? I can’t seem to find any news on a reopening date, messaged them but no reply as of yet. Only reason I ask, is that I’ve seen a few posts saying some hotels may not open back up anytime soon.

If people having name of hotels not opening along their stay, Feel free to name them.
Sound obvious, not many tourists will be back to ibz as previous year, there won't be money for all business.
From what i ve heard 50% of hôtels may open ,maybe less than 50% of tourist this year ?,
I didn't have feedbacks of 3 my San An hôtels (Sunset ibz, la Rocca and Tropical) that they will shut ?, at last i'll have my car ? but no places to keep busy at night ?

I've emailed Tropical and the manager said they are planning to open but are awaiting a specific date depending on gov guidance so we should be good for our sept trip ?

I've no info on this. Was due to stay at their sister hotel just up the prom (Ses Savines), in late May, cancelled of course.
Can't see both these hotels opening this year....but who knows?

Looking at going in August but hotels and apartments / villas seem to still be charging their usual (eye-watering!) prices for August.

Are places likely to be reduced or do they have enough business with non-clubbers and people willing to travel?

I'd simply wait. personally I think nowhere is gonna be full so you a) will always find something and b) might get some good late deals
