great photos sil. asturias is a side of spain that many brits are not familiar with. it has great beaches - san antolin is one of my personal faves - in the shadow of snow capped mountains, clean air, opportunities for all kinds of adventure sports - quads and kayaks for example and wonderful traditional food and drink. most of spain's beef and milk comes from asturias where cattle roam free on hill and mountainsides, there are still wild boars in the forests and the cider is fantastic!!

stephen, you are right, Asturias is like a big natural park with a great gastronomy. I starve only thinking in the legendary Faves con Almejas, Cabrales and Cidre.
THe beaches are great, quite cold for mediterranean standars, but there were lots and lots of people. It's quite magic being sunbathing in a beach and see high snowed mountains behind you. And it's also a surfers paradies.

Ferd, have you noticed that every little plaza in Asturias smells cidre

asturias day in san an.......from ddi

Un grupo de asturianos de Sant Antoni está organizando una fiesta para celebrar el día de su comunidad, mañana, 8 de septiembre, festividad de la Virgen de Covadonga. El programa se iniciará a las siete de la tarde en la iglesia parroquial de Sant Antoni, con una misa solemne en honor a la Patrona de Asturias.
A continuación, sobre las 20 horas se servirá una espicha asturiana en la sidrería Langlirú, situada en la calle del Obispo Torres, al lado de la iglesia. Este acto consiste en la degustación de numerosos platos fríos de la cocina asturiana.
Para que se pueda celebrar esta actividad, los organizadores cuentan con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de Sant Antoni, que ha aceptado que se cierre la calle, lo que ha permitido la instalación de un escenario donde se sucederán diversas actuaciones musicales.
El principal organizador de este programa, Vidal García, señaló que participará una pareja de gaita desplazada expresamente desde Asturias. Luego, a partir de las 21 horas actuará el grupo Goriz Jazz Band.
Es la segunda ocasión que se organiza en Sant Antoni la fiesta de la Santina. En la primera edición del año pasado los organizadores reunieron en estos actos a unas 150 personas.
Vidal García invitó a la participación de todos los asturianos de la isla y dio las gracias al Ayuntamiento, que ha otorgado los debidos permisos para que se puedan desarrollar los actos programados.
