Happy Thanksgiving!

Realizing there's only a couple other yanks that may or may not show up today, I'd still like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! :D

What a great holiday... one of the best ideas those religious fanatics the Brits exiled to North America ever came up with  That's assuming it wasn't the Indians' idea. Suffice to say, I'm sure the Indians brought most of the food for the feast!

Thanksgiving is a day for gathering with friends, family and neighbors. To take a moment and think about how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads and food on the table. To be thankful -- to god, the spaghetti monster, allah, fate, your parents, yourself or whomever -- for everything you've got and all that you've achieved. What a great thing to do from time to time.

Oh, and you get to eat a large roasted bird and all the trimmings until you find yourself in a catatonic state

I called in sick today... got a beer in hand, already made some corn bread and am currently roasting a 5 kg turkey with stuffing to take over to a friends place for dinner with the missus, 8 other expats (US & UK) and a couple of Russians. Can't wait to eat :D

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Happy thanksgiving. 8)
Not too sure about the roasted bird bit though, :? Poor Irina.

Babs - ya, not much joy in eating turkey for a vegetarian  ;)

Utagaura - I thought about mentioning how the Canadians jump the gun and celebrate a month early, but omitted the detail in the end. So belated Thanksgiving wishes to you ;)

its not really as big a celebration here as it is in the States, just an extra day off work..i think at one point we just decided we needed another long weekend

I think the real reason is because our harvest season does actually end sooner... it is minus 23 as I write this so we are passed fall/harvest season..

Hope you eat and drink too much! :)

I was thinking more about the pain of having to sit round a table with lots of loud annoying Americans  ;)
You know, Babs, there's a time and a place for your insipid, ill-informed anti-American drivel. We all know about your prejudices... you've made them abundantly clear. Save it for another thread on another day.

If you can't see the inherent beauty in this holiday, then you're a more sorry person than I thought. The point isn't about what nationality the people are you spend the day with, it's about being with friends and family and being thankful for what you've got.

On a day like this, I'm sure America is glad your not American too.

Well, the drinking has begun

Now I've jut got to figure out how to carry this huge turkey over to my friend's place once it's done  Glad he lives just a block away... might have to call for backup!

I think that's Columbus Day ;)

The legend of the first Thanksgiving was that, after the harvest, the Brit colonists and Native Americans sat down together for the big feast. The colonists were happy to have survived a year (thus, being thankful). The Indians were just being good neighbors.

So, that would be before they started killing them and taking their land :?

ah the old "fill ya belly before we rape and pillage your land" approach
Exactly!
(keep in mind, they were still just British expats at the time ;))

Thanks Nick, Mambs, Sandi, Sirens. :D Turkey is about 25 minutes from being ready. Looks good 8)
