Glastonbury in Ibiza

Not going to happen.

Load of bullshit.

Wouldn't work anyway (IMO)

Theres that festival that may happen end of june next year (which I think will be shit) - there was a thread about this not long ago.

Theres been loads of talk about this on some festival boards today.

We could see something with the name Glastonbury happen though with the Spanish law loophole - (remember the fiasco with the superclubs a few years back)? :spank:

Ibiza has grown into the complete antithesis of the glastonbury spirit.

Can you see hippies paying £6 for a water?

Never gonna happen I'm afraid.

there was an article about it in the metro today.

A friend of mine sent me the scan - I'm at work so I couldnt' upload it to my personal ftp. That's why I asked about.

I agree with the naysayers - why would a hippy want to pay 6 euro for water?

There is a big article in the times about it, it says it'll be some weekend in June and there are big bands rumoured to be involved...does anybody have any idea what weekend it'll be??

Glastonbury weekend for next year should have been 23rd - 26th of June if it was going ahead.

Article in the times today about this.
As much as I'm sure that a festival in Ibiza will be great it's wrong to call it Glastonbury really as it's not it's Ibiza ! :?

It's not even anything to do with michael or emily eavis from what I can gather.

I know but it says they'd like it to become an annual event so I'm wondering if they'll have it on a different weekend than Galstonbury??

I hope that one of those "big bands" rumored to be involved aren't the Donnas. I'm sorry, they're weak when it comes to being rawk chicks, and if they haven't taken the crown of "the most successful female band in the world who writes and records their own songs" from the GoGos yet, how much more is their record company going to pay to buy it? Tacky. Organizers should hire the Scissor Sisters to headline.

Thank God they'll get this event over with early in the summer and leave July and August to the clubbers.

Tacky=Scissor Sisters

Scissor sisters seemed to be either headlining or playing everything I went to last summer. They bore me.

I know what you mean about SS headlining everything in 2004. They really hit the UK festivals hard - I myself remember saying they must have friends in high places (Elton John?). They're so much fun, though. Festivals are their forte and seeing them in the bright sun in Ibiza would be perfect.

Yeah I hear what your saying, and I forgot they broke over here long before they did in the `states.

I think the band is way better suited for larger festivals. I saw them at T in the Park 2004 and then later in the year at Hammerstein Ballroom here in NYC (at the time, their biggest US show to date), it was two different things. There's a good reason why they broke in Europe before the States, and I don't think they'll ever break here!

Why don't you think they'll break the States?

Boy George said in an article last year that homophobia is the reason why the Scissors aren't promoted by the radio stations and MTV in the US like they are in Europe; that was my thought exactly! The music is good and radio friendly. They get airplay on dance stations here but that's about it. I was wondering why they didn't hit it here when they were huge in Europe - we had the Village People singing about the gay scene at the YMCA, what's wrong with Take Your Mama Out? That's kid's stuff!
