Camp as Christmas Liverpool club, Garlands, returns to its spiritual home on Eberle St, Saturday November 29, 16 months after a fire gutted the 3-storey venue.
After being named ‘No 1 club in the UK’ last summer by readers of Mixmag, they were forced to relocate when the building was gutted. After the fire Garlands asked punters via their website www.garlandsonline.co.uk how they would like to see the club re-built. They unanimously requested for it to be re-constructed in exactly the same style. Designers were then given the task of duplicating the formula and recreating the original design inch by inch.
The club organisers have also announced a series of new residents for 2004 including Radio 1’s Judge Jules, Lisa Lashes, Eddie Halliwell and Rob Tissera. They say there will be no advance tickets for the opening night, which will also see a turn from diva Jocelyn Brown. Punters will be allowed in on a first come first serve basis.
Next year the club celebrates its 10th anniversary and will be making a movie and hosting an art exhibition as part of the Liverpool Biennial. Organisers say Garlands has no VIP room and refuses admission to anyone pulling up in a limo, pointing out that it’s celebrity knock backs so far include Boy George, the entire cast from Brookside and Craig from Big Brother. They say, “The only VIPs at Garlands are the clubbers”.
