hi all,

i have reindexed the entire forums (whatever that means ;-)

this is the reason for the slowdown this afternoon. however you should now be abel to search old posts much better

please try some searches and report back here.

thanks

its working ok now but only if you use the "advanced search". if you just click "search" on top of this page (as i am sure most people do) the results are still.......... poo!! :?

Well done James :D

When you reindex a database you rebuild the list of words/terms that can be found when performing a search, i assume its the same for a forum.

but anyway...

i can now find what i was looking for this morning

but think you'll get cross if i post it here

are you still supposed to use 'and' & 'or' :?:

stuie, you can use "quotes" to find an exact phrase or AND or OR to use boolean values. the server still timed out when rebuilding the search index (which now has over 4.5 million records :P), but i think most of the old posts are now searchable.

please keep me informed.

thanks all

When I logged in there was no new posts :? - Even though there was some from the last time I logged in. Anyone else have this?

I have the same problems sometimes.
And sometimes I loose all my new messages when using the PM service

I think it is when you click 'Proceed' just as the forum is about to take you to the index. It's registered you have been on-line and then by clicking proceed you are kind of repeating the log on process.

stuie is this part of your removal from the sin-bin; giving non-innuendo helpful advice in a friendly manner to fellow spotlighters:lol:

grego, i've always provided helpful advice when i can to fellow spotlighters but my innuendo laden posts of late have distracted from that. I feel that perhaps some people might only remember the posts with innuendo in them and forget other more helpful posts that i make :D

ps. Nick forwarded me your theory while i was away and I just wanted to say I agree very much but wanted to ask you if you were 100% sure about where you placed yourself on the sliding scale  ;)
