Hi all, am heading to ibiza soon and am thinking of hiring a car. Will I need anything other than an Irish driving license such as an international driving license?
Thanks,
B

Don't hire a car to get to Ibiza, use a plane, or the ferry.

Last time i drove all the way there I sunk about five miles from formentera, and to be honest it spoilt the holiday.

Bloody sharks

If you bring Photo Licence - you must also bring the paper bit.

Otherwise you won't get a car

you also have to over 21 to hire a car in Europe (for insurance reasons).

The 4 years bit is untrue as I hired a car on my first visit in 1998 having only had my licence for 2 years

Not true

I've hired a car 4 times on the Island over the last 3 years with different companies and it is not required.

i should explain.

i use my british driving license which i've had for over 30 years and it doesn't have my photo on it. is there a new system in britain that i don't know about as i haven't been out of spain for 7 years now?

A couple of years ago the DVLA began issuing people with 'photo driving licences', kinda like a credit card, with a picture on it and details of your licence http://www.dvla.gov.uk/welcome.htm (pick one at the top). If you have an existing paper licence you can keep that until which time you require and update e.g change of address and then you are issued with one for free. You can change to one voluntarily but you would have to pay for it.
