What do you do for a job? And do you like it?

Is this the job you aimed to get as a career, or would you like a change?

Discuss :D

i'm a buyer/project manager in the public sector and my job is a piece of pi$$.:D

get paid a stupidly high salary for doing practically nothing all day with all the perks of public sector working - flexitime, extra holiday days after bank holidays, laid back atmosphere, etc, etc.8)

emigrating to ibiza in 2008 so just earning as much money as I can before I leave.

I'm a Freelance Marketing Manager and I love what I do. I go and work for Marketing Agencies/Companies for a certain period of time if they're working on big projects/need more help/etc.

I went freelance about a year ago after working in Marketing for 6/7 years, the money is much better than permanent work but most importantly for me is the flexibility of freelance work, if I want time off I can have it without having to go and get a holiday form signed off  Plus if you're doing a freelance job and you don't particularly like it you know it's only for a certain period of time and it's not like you've got to be there for ages.

I'm an I.T/Systems manager for a designer clothing wholesaler/retailer and I also absolutely love my job. It can be very stressful at times but I wouldn't do anything else.

The atmosphere in work is generally pretty laid back and I have literally made friends with just about all of the 300+ people I look after across the country. I look after more than 20 sites so get out and about a fair bit.

Oh, I also get paid pretty well and get some very very cheap clothes

I'm managing assitant in a HUGE holding. I like my job, I get to know lots of different business and the amount of information I read everyday is priceless. At the moment the sector of the company I'm working now it's not too interesting to me, but working in a 21.000 employees central services is a big experience and I like lots and lots my two bosses with whom I've been working for four years.
I hope to take the maximum advantage of this job for few years but I don't think I'll be here for the rest of my life, actually I don't think I'll be managing assistant for the rest of my life neither

i work in advertsing in account - the advertising side is great, so is some parts of accounts - overall I love my job though, very relaxed, everyone loves to party and work hard at the same time. Only until recently the money has got better, but they also pay for my studying which I plan to take pull advantage off.

Ambition - One day I will leave acccounts and try a year doing something different, I like the thought of becoming a music buyer for commericals etc and know my accounts experience will be vital (budgets, negoating contracts, preices etc is bascially everything I will learn in accounts).... Just want to finish my studies incase the grass is not actually greener on the other side...

As everybody knows I hate my job!

I was as a PR Co-ordinator for an agency - there's not that much work on at the minute and the money's not that great!

I'm hoping to take some time out next year and think about what I really want to do career wise and get my finger out and do somrething about it!:D

I really really enjoy my job - been here 9 years now and I am a Senior PA for 5 Partners and have now taken responsibility for "mothering" a team of new consultants who have started work on a Government Project we have just won a bid on. I work for a well known US IT/Management Consultancy Firm for the UK office.

One of the main parts of my job (which I just love, love, love) is arranging Community Events for around 500 people around the country which means a lot of logistics and facilitating at the events. I also arrange the firm wide parties too from about 35 people up to 1700 which is the event I am working on at the moment for June this year. I have just hired a stately home in Ripon in Yorkshire, and arranged for a massive pyrotechnics display, fairground rides, the menus, transport, bar, disco (not my choice of music however which is a shame:lol:  ). I also deal with a lot of charity work which we are asked to help with from charities across the UK.

One of the plus points apart from a pretty decent salary and 40 days vacation a year is that the amount of contacts I have made from venue, hotels, bars, clubs etc is that I negotiate cheap rates for myself and friends when we need these for personal stuff!! 8) 8)

Now thats' what I want to be doing!;):D

I work in public relations for a big company (~40,000).

It's pretty boring right now as everything's very quiet, so I wouldn't mind a change of pace sometime soon.

When everything hits at once and you've got a phone attached to your ear taking calls from all over the world while trying simultaneously to bang out a communications strategy, press release, and talking points, then you're having fun.

In general, I like PR. I'm pretty good at it. It suits me. It's an interesting line of work.

To everyone:

Would you say this is the career path you would have chosen? I mean, does anyone think to themselves "I wonder what it would be like if I had chosen that job! ...i.e your dream job?

I guess Im still struggling with whether Im destined to be an Accountant! I like where I work now, the people are great, suitable hours, benefits etc. Pay is not so great but hopefully that'll change.
I just still have this niggling voice in the back of my head saying "but are you sure this is what you want to be?" I've always loved English you see, reading, writing etc. Im not sure whether I should at least have a crack at getting a job in that kind of industry. But then I'm scared I'll hate it and immediately regret leaving the comfort of where I am now!

I work in investment banking. I don't mind the work i do. Its the people i can't stand working woth. Don't get me wrong i've got good mates that i go out with etc, but aside from that the, i.e. the managers are w@nkers. But you get that everywhere i guess.

I don't think many people end up in the job they thought they'd have ended up in. When I left university all I wanted to be was a solicitor, it was only when I started my Law Conversion course I found it really dull. And then I got accepted on Tesco's Graduate Programme and then ended up in Marketing. I wouldn't change what I do now (well cept for being a Personal Shopper or a Professional Dog Walker  ) but I have moments when I think 'should I have used my degree to it's best benefit and done something more worthwhile in my life instead of poncing around in Marketing :? '.

You're only a pup-pess Becki, you could easily change your career path now at your age, lots of people I know who are lots older than you still don't have a clue what they want to do. I think it's better to have tried something and failed than never to have tried it before. Nobody can ever take away your qualifications and experience you've already got, so even if you try something else and it's not for you, you can always go back to it.

a big yes.

unless of course the only other thing i dreamt of doing was becoming a World Class middle distance runner. But mother said it wasnt a proper job.

so much for parental support.

Im a secretary / PA to 3 directors and 12 engineers and it is sort of on the right career path that i have always wanted to do since leaving school. Its a job i can progress in within different organisations but the job i really want to do is event organising. I just need a few more secretarial years under my belt though.

I worked my way up from a receptionist role where i learned some great organisation skills. I have to be honest and admit that where i am at the moment does bore me because im not at my best unless im kept busy and it would seem that im too efficient   . Shame i cant just jump a few steps up the ladder but i think i need at least another 2 or 3 years.

I also planned on becoming a lawyer after university. I took the US law school admissions test and did really well, had all my applications ready to send out. I thought I'd take a couple of years off and work before starting graduate studies, but then an 8-month assignment abroad turned into 9.5 years

I desperately need a PA so CV's will be much appreciated.

:D
Wait a sec... does that involve moving to Sheffield or can you telecommute from a real city, oops, I mean, somewhere down south?
