Did anyone see this program last night??

What a load of rubbish!!!
The book I mean, not the tv program

Didn't see the program but would've liked to...I've always heard great things about that book and the bits I've been told about sound very faesable.

...I'd be interested to find out why the book came across as tripe.

:?

My husband is reading it now, almost halfway through. He says it is one of the best books he has ever read. Lots of cool revelations and thought provoking ideas...

I know the book does contain factual information but from watching the program last night its all founded on nonsense.

Uh... people. It's a work of fiction. It might draw upon various spiritual things but in the end, it's a work of fiction!

I've got it but haven't read it yet. There already working on the movie so hope I get around to it before then.

The book is fiction so why should it be based on fact?

The author was on tv and the stuff he was saying about the book was suggesting that it is real, thats all.

If it relates to the Old Testament of the bible then I'd argue that it's probably not nonsense, this text has been referenced in ancient egypt and through pictorial representations in ancient tarot cards etc. It's origins date back to a time when there was no such thing as a written language so therefore artwork is a perfectly logical way to put out these ancient but radical ideas (especially in our bigoted, warped society :? ).

The real meaning of the old testament is the dog's bits and has hidden meanings everywhere but unfortunately it has been screwed by Christian fundamentalists and made biased by the man made 'new' testament (which is full of guilt driven sh!te).

...and that's probably too much info coming from someone that didn't even see the program! ;)

sooooooo many books around; can't for my life understand
why so many people allmost only read those pushed on us
by huge advertising campains...

go on, choose for yourself - be the individual you are!

i'm two thirds through it at the moment.

it's a shoddy re-hash of the 1980's bestseller 'The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail' with an added (rubbish) cop chase movie plot.

For a brilliant (ahem) deconstructive satire of all these theories I really reccomend reading

Foccault's Pendulum

Umberto Eco's wonderful novel (him wot wrote The Name of the Rose)

Exactly Karlos, the author was very convinced he was speaking the truth. I really did want to believe everything that was said, but there simply wasnt enough factual information to back up the theory.

Hi

I am new to all this 'Forum' & 'Posting' stuff so bare with me. I have however, read the Da Vinci Code and the 'Rough Guide to The da Vinci Code' of which the program the other night is mostly based on. A couple of things worth considering:-

1. Yes most of it is fiction and much of the fact is greatly embellished (artistic license ?) by Dan Brown

2. Dan Brown is not a very accomplished writer, the style of writing is very immature (6th form level English in places) - short chapters which break and then start from the same place in the following chapter - not very professional - Angels & Demons is a better book & his other two are rubbish (and until the Da Vinci code arrived were literary flops).

3. Dan brown is a pretty good story teller, the actual plot & story for the most part is quite compelling.

4. Dan Brown is a master at PR and now one of the richest writers in the world. The more he crops up on telly & in interviews maintaining the 'Factual' basis of the book the more people think '.. I know I'll go and buy it & read it to see what all the fuss is about..' - hence creating more hype etc.

Sorry for the long post it is probably bad etiquette or something.

Thankyou for the welcome

- I hope i didn't sound too much of a geek on the Da Vinci Code, its just that it seems like everytime I have been out over the past few weeks I get into a conversation on the subject.

I saw the program and it did seem to prove that the book was a load of old tripe.

Very readable tripe seeing as it has sold so much, but tripe none the less. Frankly anyone with half a brain could see it was nowt but fiction, however it seems the Americans (surprise surprise) have taken it to heart.

Go to the Louvre and you can now do a Da Vinci Code guided tour taking in all the references in the book. The Yanks seem to love this and its about the most popular tour they have there right now. Makes them feel as though they are somehow "living the book". But then for a nation that gets most of its world view from the cinema this is hardly a revelation.

Seeing as the bible itself is no more than a collection of folk tales that has been interpreted, reinterpreted and edited for omissions and inclusions in many forms for nearly a couple of thousand years it seems unbelievable that anyone would put so much faith in another book that is based very loosely on what amounts to quite a small portion of it.

I will probably get strung up or burned at the stake for this heresy but anyway, there you go thats my two penneth........

jesus is that book really so popular that there are guided tours at louvre. and besiden for the paintings what connection does the book have to louvre?
