Its that time of the year again folks where the truly fortunate amongst us get to pack our day-glo speedos, Gucci monogrammed slippers and those oh-so-essential Prada wraparounds and jet off to Miami for the yearly industry knees up. NYC super DJ Jon Cutler was quoted as saying that WMC is 70% socialising(aka partying), 20% networking (aka drinking the record company’s expense account dry) and 10% sleep(aka getting laid)…. All I can say is THE LUCKY BUGGERS!

For those amongst us who are stuck in Blighty fear not …this Friday we kind folk at Pin-Up bring you a sneaky peek at whats gonna be hot (musically anyway!) at Miami this year by inviting the truly wicked Copyright for a sesh on our 1’s and 2’s….get in!

Awesome producers, super DJs and truly nice fellas …these guys are set to raise the roof at Pin-Up this Friday…they are privy to some of the hottest new releases out there and no doubt they will be airing a few this Friday…including their imminent release Time featuring the beautiful vocals of Imaani.
I had the pleasure of witnessing their awesome set at the Defected night at Pacha last Saturday and I can personally say that it was one of the BIG highlights.
If you like your house sublimely soulful yet always pumping this is night you’ve been waiting for….prepare to be very impressed!

Peace.

Can I just say pin up ROCKS. Filled a gaping hole since Bed. *Sob, still can't quite get over it*

Are you going to Hustle @ .zero on Saturday?

We're hoping to get down - should be a blinder (again!)

I'm not originally from Sheff but been visiting regularly since 3 years ago, and living here over 2 years now, and definitely consider it home. Living it up near Eccy road at present but very soon to be moving to Walkley (toning it down somewhat!). Thinking about Hustle.. some friends are going but I was hoping to have my first weekend off since NYE.. been saying that since NYE though so will probably see you there!!

Eccy road - very nice indeed! (especially Eccy rd south where my g/f is from ;) )

Walkley is cool, i lived there all my life until 18 months ago.

Hey, have you been to Crystal yet? I went for lunch on Tuesday, excellent food! Going to book an evening meal soon to check out the upper levels.

??Crystal?? Where/what is this intriguing new venue? Have I been asleep?! :?:

It's on Carver street in town.

Very cool place, on about 3/4 levels with glass ceilings etc.

Would like to check it out on Saturday night but although it's a huge place i've heard the queue's are horrendous.

There's another tasty bar below there too, which used to be 'Dickens'.

Is that Ruby Lounge? Yes heard good reports about there. Seem to miss out on going to bars lately, just head to straight to the club or wherever or pop in one place beforehand. I shall endeavour to check out Crystal. Queues will die down eventually - always like that whenever a new place opens here. So were you a Bed person before it so harshly closed with no notice whatsoever?

Yeah, most weeks in early days then maybe every month or two towards the end.

Such a shame it closed. Some wicked times were had :(

Having said that, it's closing was good news for my wallet.

...Good news for my sanity also!! Started to take it for granted towards the end, then they went and taught me a lesson :( ah well, decent clubs like pin up and hustle, while not ever matching the big time greatness of Bed, do a job in it's absence. I like to reminisce of an evening about great nights.. some of my favourites were Roger Sanchez November 02 when he played Another Chance right at the end.. magical.. and Erick Morillo September of that year, he basically played Subliminal Sessions 3 in it's entirety, but it was great at the time cos the album had only just come out. Don't think i moved from the dance floor all night. Man it was hot in there!!

That was one of the best nights ever at Bed, closely followed by Roger S and the Underwater night.

What i like about Hustle is the crowd. It seems to attract the best of the Bed lot.

Did you know Love2Be are putting on a night at The Adelphi a week this saturday? That should be a good one too. I was considering going but have other plans.

I did see an advert for it in Exposed.. bit wary of Adelphi there as always feel I may be sold into the sex trade if I was to hang around there too long! Only thing about Hustle is the venue, Zero.. lacks a bit of atmosphere I reckon. But it's what you make of it i guess.. and beggars can't be choosers!! So where are you in Sheff then? :?:

We live at Kingswood Hall (the old Middlewood mental asylum which was converted into apartments) near Worral. Amazing place, very happy!

Yeah, bit seedy near Adelphi. Did you ever go to The Arches in the Wicker? Now that was a good club but again, very dodgy area. Never saw a spot of bother though.

.Zero is ok, better than i expected. I was worried it would be like it was when it was Capitol :?

Re .Zero lacking atmosphere.
Myself and Coxy have since day 1 expressed concerns about a lack of feel and warmth as you walk in but I think once you get within 3 or 4 yards of the dance floor (where it really counts) its difficult not to be grabbed by the bollocks. (or nipples)
Ruby lounge.
I start there on Good Friday for Hustlin. Kinda weekly Hustle...till 11 anyway.
There are still tickets available for Saturday btw.
D

Yeah I know, it's the people that really make the atmosphere when it comes down to it, i don't know if you've heard annie mac on radio1 recently chatting about the smaller nights that have cropped up round te country as a response to a gap of sorts being left by bigger clubs - some of them are happening in far more random places like old community halls, but the point is they're getting packed out each week because it's what the crowds want in music etc rather than venue. I've kind of contradicted myself here entirely but i guess what i'm trying to say is i feel like that's what's happening in sheff right now with the smaller clubs, i mean obviously in an ideal world we'd be going to Hustle in Bed (that sounds quite good!!) but they couldn't manage to keep it afloat so how could us lowly normal people??!

Back to your question Drew, never went to the Arches, same fears as Adelphi! I looked at those apartments when i was moving a few months ago, very nice.

If you're from Walkley then by rights you should know some of my friends.. Sheffield is a small village after all! So let's start with the essentials.. how old are you and what school did you go to!! :)

Apparently, Sheffield's known as the worlds biggest village. A phrase derived from our apparent friendliness, which is strange because most of the time people look straight through you

I'm almost 35 8O and i went to school at Myers Grove in Stannington.

:D

Ah there you go a lot of my friends went to Myers Grove also! They are around 27-29 though, so you probably didn't know em.. though Walkley's a small enough place so i bet you do somehow, however vaguely.

I've always found Sheffield to be really friendly.. much friendlier than the bit of the South where I'm from.. but that's Luton so you're probably more statistically likely to get mugged than have a stranger smile at you. I just think there's something great about having random old women call you duck constantly. Can cheer me up no end if i'm in a bad mood!

My younger brother is 29 so he'll probably know more of your friends.

So, you up for Hustle then?

I'm hopefully going with a few friends.

I think so, yes.. was touch and go but as always Friday has come round and I'm getting weekend giddiness again. Should be a busy night, in fact I went to the first one a year ago i think, either that or the second one so i really should be getting free entry, free drinks, presents etc for my loyalty... :D
