Cheap ferries to Ireland?

Anyone know of any cheap ferries to Ireland? Preferably going to either Rosslare or Cork. It's for my parents, they're going to Waterford for a holiday later this year, but it's in August and the quotes are coming back at something ridiculous like £400 for the ferry! 8O

My Dad's afraid of flying, plus they want a car over there, so the cost of flights and car hire is more than the ferry put together.

becki,

this website is the best for ferries in europe www.aferry.to

just glanced at it and there are ferries to rosslare from the south coast. going from liverpool is another option i suppose if flying isn't an option.:?

Ferries are very expensive. Barcelona - Ibiza one person with a mopped (that's me) was 300€ 8O and that was three years ago and the slow ferry.

So, if there's no other option than the ferry, be ready to pay more than expected.
BTW, as grego said, best site is aferry.com

I know but my Dad wont fly so there's no way of him going over there!!

Shame

I commute to Dublin for work every week, and last week my return flight was £28.64 including taxes.....

Cheapest I am aware of is from Birkenhead (Liverpool) to either Belfast or Dublin. It has now been taken over by Norfolkline but I think the old website www.norsemerchant.com still works. Takes 8 hours though so if that's too long you could try Stena - the HSS goes Stranraer to Belfast and Holyhead to Dun Laoighre (Dublin). Don't really know about anything in the wild lands South of Dublin though!
