To celebrate its 25th birthday, Cafe del Mar is recruiting talent for its commemorative double cd compilation, due for release at the end of this year. Apart from the memorable sunsets of the eminent Ibiza club, Cafe del Mar's also a chillout pioneer, having released annual compilations since 1994.
Cafe del Mar first opened its doors in San Antonio, Ibiza in 1980 by Catalan architect, Lluis Geell, who conjured up the blending of stunning scenery with ambient music playing in the background for an unforgettable evening. After 10 years on the island, people are still "awed by the silence which descends on the bar as the sun reluctantly gives up its last rays, before vanishing below the horizon."
Cafe del Mar will start the season on April 12th and will remain open until November 2nd. The label will release three new records this year with the first 'Cafe del Mar Classic 2' between March and April, followed by the next collection volume, "Cafe del Mar Volume 11'' as well as the birthday compilation.
