Hey all you fantastic and knowledgeable people, i'm taking a 3-4 weeks off work December/January time and i'm going to visit the above places. I'll be sight seeing, chilling on the awesome beaches and most importantly clubbing!! So where are the best places to go clubbing/drinking and where would be the best place to be for NYE? All replies will be much appreciated :D

hello you :)

when was this booked, lucky bitch ;)

Oooh Lucky you!!!!

Ive spent a lot of time in Rio and BA but Punte del Este is definately on my hit list.

Rio for NYE is spectacular by all accounts but gets ridiculously busy - though that does have its own appeal. Would chose that for NYE over BA by all accounts but not too knowledgable on how good Punte Del Este is for NYE specifically although it should be heaving in general around that time.

In addition to the places you've listed I would make a trip down to Warung Beach Club near Florianopolis in Brazil - is the most spectacular club in the world IMO and gets good line ups. Saw Sven Vath there last year although this was around carnival so you would need to check the line ups.

Rio - clubs tend to be either glam where the rich and beautiful of Ipanema hang out - but playing commercial house and brazilian music - Best clubs for this are Baronetti in Ipanema, Nuth in Barra Ta Tijuca or ZeroZero in Gavea

or the more bohemian parties with lots of Samba and Brazilian or Baille Funk (amazing beats) - Best for this is to head to the area called Lapa which is awesome on a weekend.

There some house clubs as well which are good though we went to special events that were thrown mainly during carnival. Electronic music is mainly gay/mixed scene in Rio - Had a lot fun but did get my ass pinched by a lot of ridiculously toned and scary guys8O Try and catch an X-Demente party which happens once or twice a month at Fundicao Progresso - basically a massive rave, or go to Dama de Ferro or Fosfobox in Ipanema which are good dance clubs but to be honest would wait until Buenos Aires for dance music as the scene is much bigger there.

There is also a more traveller / Beach party scene away from the main cities if you want to go further north up the coast to places like Arial Adjuda or Morro De Sao Paulo or much closer to Rio, somewhere like Buzios which is very expensive but stunning. Although will be very similar to Punte Del Este I imagine.

BA- As I said much more Dance music focused and as close to the Ibiza/Spanish crowd you will find anywhere in the world

Club wise Pacha is a must. Prefer it to the Pacha Ibiza any day. Also worth checking out is Bahrain which plays really good filthy techno in the downstairs bit. Other less serious places are Crobar

Niceto is good as well (On a Thursday I beleive) - the night is called Club 69

Again the "glam" clubs worth checking out are Mint & Rumi and probably a whole lot more which should be easy to find out about (although Mint does good dance music nights too).

Pick up a copy of a free weekly listings paper like Wipe when you are out there for more up to date stuff.

Oh and Dont go to Opera Bay (its Rubbish and overrun with tourists!)

Well hope that helps, though feel free to ask as I could go on and on!:roll::lol:

fantastic, thank you so much for all your information, feel free to send me more when you think of other places to sample :-) As for getting your bum pinched by ridiculously muscular men, well i'd be happy with that haha

Ok but be carefull. I'll probably end up planning your trip for you which is half the fun though will definately pop up with some more tips...Im in Love with South America!

Bum pinching by muscular guys - dont think you should have a problem there. Brazilian men are persistent if nothing else....though Id be happy to oblige. My 1-pac is coming along nicely for Ibiza which I think puts me firmly in the ridiculously muscular camp!

I could go on and on!:roll::lol:
Please do!

Just booked 8 days in Argentina for New Years. 8)

I'm thinking we'll fly in, get a car, and head straight down to Mar del Plata for 3.5 days of beach time. Back to Buenos Aires on NYE, rest up and hit the celebrations, then have 3.5 more days in the city.

Sound like a decent plan? Any other advice? And in which part of town is it best to stay?

Now im Jealous! You'll love it - BA is the closest place to Ibiza I think in the world in terms of people and party with so much more culturally obviously

Defo stay in Palermo - Either Palermo Viejo which has loads of bars, restaurants, cafes and Palermo Viejo is cool as well but anywhere in that area is lovely because there are so many lovely parks and open spaces - Taxi's are so cheap it doesnt matter too much exactly where -Recoleta is nice as well but personaly prefer Palermo for the cafe culture- but dont stay in the centre -1st time I went we stayed near Avenida de Mayo - which is close to the sights but boring after dark.

Restaurants wise - Eat in Las Canitas in the evening - On the edge of Palermo - Really buzzing - Make sure for Steak and traditional Parilla you go to Campobravo in Las Canitas - its a MUST - You wont want to eat steak anywhere else afterwards - You normally have to put your name down and wait about 30mins-1hr on most nights (no reservations) but its fun as they give you a glass of Champers and a seat outside. Lots of other restaurants in that area but this beats them hands down....im salivating thinking about it!

In general we never ate before 11-12pm - No one does there - and didnt hit a club before 2am - again no one does there

If you get time - though with only 3days you will be pushed would do a day trip to Uruguay across the River Plate - really good day trip if you have the time. Oh and you have to watch either a Boca Juniors or River Plate game! - Dont bother getting tickets from a tour company - rip off - just go to the ground and get a ticket for like £5 from a "scalper" and sit with the proper fans - great fun!

Ill let you know if I think of any more tips.

Lots of good advice in there. Much thanks.

Did you ever make it down to Mar del Plata? Seems to be the main beach resort around there. Any thoughts?

To be honest, I'd rather sail over to Montevideo but we're just not sure we have time to get 3 visa lined up for the missus (US, Arg., Urug.)

I never made it down there as was pretty much beached out from Brasil by the time we got there

TBH I have heard that Mar Del Plata is a bit too built up - a bit of a Cancun for Argentina and have heard some v.mixed reviews about it - Argentina isnt especially known for its beaches

If you want a beach resort thats quite built up but with plenty to do as well - Big hotels, casino's etc - it should be ok but if you want unspoilt quiet beaches I would consider getting a flight over to Uruguay or even Brazil - Rio is only a couple of hours by flight! (though obviously Ipanema beach is hardly unspoilt - but still spectacular)

My Italian? Not so hot

do you mean the neighborhood or the club? I check the Boca Juniors site earlier and it doesn't look like they're playing while we're there :(

I hear ya about Uruguay, thelak... it's definitely my prefered side trip but we'll have to see how this visa stuff pans out.

great topic :D i'm going to florianopolis in january, does anyone have any tips for restaurants, things to do, shopping & going out? going to warung of course and then to a place called green valley (www.greenvalley.art.br)

can't bloody wait!!

Ahhh, BA, hands down the greatest city in the world!!! Definitely check out Pacha (my favourite club in the world) and Caix for Sunday afters. Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood are definitely the cool areas to hang out in, but anywhere in BA and I'm happy!
I'll be there 13-16 Jan - too short:(, but I'll be spending NYE up in Trancoso Brazil, NOW THAT'S A SCENE!!!!! Love it!
