Just seen this, not had chance to hear any news today, that is such good news and such an unexpected outcome, bless the little peace making man :D

They released the American journalist today :D
Good news... she seems like a nice girl, and she says they treated her well the whole time.

I was at my conference yesterday and I booked Terry Waite as my guest speaker.

I felt humbled by this guy - he was so inspirational with his speech - and everyone was mesmirised by his story. In fact, for me to have 600 people give a standing ovation is unheard of for my lot - hard hearted buggers that they are.....

a very very interesting and humble man.....

I think I saw him speak years ago (or was that a documentary? fuzzy...)... quite an amazing guy. Seemed free of the bitterness I know I'd be carrying like a battering ram.

he still does the work as well, still negotiates for hostage release, and he is so not bitter about his experience in the slightest...... just a big WOW on meeting him personally and listen to him speak.... respect to the man.

On a similar subject, Brian Keenan's book "An Evil Cradling" is one of the most moving things I've ever read - he was held hostage in Beirut with John McCarthy for four or five years in the 80s.

He was talking about Brian Keenan - that's how he himself was taken hostage, negotiating for the release of John McCarthy, Brian Keenan and I think 4 other hostages.....

Apparently after 2 years in solitary confinement, they were going to release him, took him to a proper house (as opposed to a tiled cell) and guarded him there for a week ready to release him at a time and place to be decided, at the end of that week the Iran Contra situation kicked off, changed their minds about the release and they took him back to his cell and kept him there another 3 years because they thought he was involved with arms dealing - can you imagine being so close to freedom to find yourself back in your cell alone for another 3 years!!!
