'Rocket' is this year's big breaks track
Words: Terry Church

Ben Braund and James Reynolds aka Braund Reynolds have come up with a storming breaks track like you’ve never heard before.

‘Rocket’ is based around a sample by 12-piece late 60s funkateers Blood, Sweat And Tears, and the song is hotting up to be one of the biggest tracks of the year.

Originally signed to Phonetic records, Virgin have since snapped up ‘Rocket’, a sure sign that the track is destined for big things.

‘Rocket’ has been caned by DJs across the board all summer and now comes the video.

'Rocket' (A Natural Gambler)
Released 5th December 05

Braund Reynolds 'Rocket' is a blast of fresh air! Via its limited run on Phonetic Records the record has already been No.1 on DMCs Buzz Chart, Pete Tong's Essential Tune of The Month in Mixmag and Radio 1's Jo Whiley has played it twice already after Pete gave her a copy personally . The word is out, Braund Reynolds is set to explode ! The London band is releasing its highly anticipated first single on Ten Records. Already tipped by Music Week, Mixmag, Thomas Bangalter, Fatboy Slim and many industry players, they're going to become one of 2005's brightest new bands.

The whirlwind of attention from gigs, DJ sets and demos have put Ben Braund and James Reynolds in a quandary - it could suddenly look like becoming work. Their ferocious live set has them joined onstage by Mike Allen on vocals, Jamie Humphries on guitar, DJ First Rate (the world's finest scratch-artist, ex-Scratch Pervert) on decks, Republica's drummer hitting the cans, and a 4-strong brass section. When solely behind the decks, both Ben and James enjoy gigs across the globe – a further chance to put the Braund Reynolds sound to the masses. Closer to home you can find them tipping their hedonistic hats at a club near you.

Musically, they’re an insanely energetic mix of heavy break beats, guitar licks, and psychedelia. ‘Rocket’ is a mere sniff of the Braund Reynolds bounty. It’s a raucous, uplifting, beast of a track, currently swaggering onto a dancefloor near you, and recognisable for it’s fiery, country-style vocal. The release features remixes from wunderkind Patrick Alavi and Rennie Pilgrim plus two firing mixes from Young Punx and Coburn & Slyde.

A DMC Buzz Chart Hot Number 1, here's what they had to say...

"A potential monster hit record that also happens to be - shock! horror! really excellent too. Fully live, with big kick-ass, brassy Memphis-style horns and country-rock wah-wah guitar licks, this shows what the not -really - missed genre of Big Beat could have been if it had got its freak on and delivered some good songs. The vocal is pure Tom Jones in his 70's vegas swagger, the beats are rockin' and it builds and builds till you're jumping up and down like a loon. Some classy underground house/breaks mixes from Patrick Alavi and Rennie Pilgrim round out the double vinyl package, but to be frank, the original version is so good it almost hurts. This will rock all the clubs and in a perfect universe, would be Number One with a bullet in the charts. You can't help but grin when you hear this tune - it's the kind of song that rides into town on a Hog, swigging Jack Daniels from the bottle, and shags your sister with a smile."
