I recently read that Bob Relf died in November 2007. You probably don't know his name but you'll know his music. Relf recorded possibly one of the most seminal dance music tracks ever with Earl Nelson in 1963. It was Harlem Shuffle, whose fanfare you'll recognise from House of Pain's 'Jump Around' and probably the Rolling Stones' version.
Harlem Shuffle
Barry White played piano on the track which eventually charted in Britain in 1969.
As Bobby Garrett, Relf enjoyed success on the Mirwood record label where he cut
I can't get away
which you'll recognise from the KFC adverts a few years ago.
The last track I've included was released in the early 70's under his own name
Blowing my Mind to Pieces
which was so, so popular in the Highland Room at Blackpool Mecca when it was a Mecca for soul and dance fans from all over Britain. I still get goosebumps listening to these tracks.
I hope Bob made a bit of cash from them.
