What is the best way to get a tan - I only have a week and will be spening lots of time in bars and clubs at night!

If you go in the sea, does it work better?

thanks

Spend lots of time @ Bora Bora, you can dance in the sea in the sun and hear great music.

Oh and Hawaian Tropic have a spray oil with carrot juice in which browns you off nicely.

You have two options:
- Fake tan :?
- Sunbath

Stuie, don't recomend Carrot things, you don't get tanned, you get orange 8O ;)

Get the boat to Formentera!

We got a weeks worth of tan in 25 minutes

On a serious note, be careful going to Formentera cos you don't feel yourself burning on the boat and there's very little shade when you get there :?

Start off with a factor 8-ish for the first few days and then go down to factor 6-ish. Try not to be silly and burn yourself tho - redness just aint a good look.

if u burn easy, sit just under a shaded bit... just cos yr not in direct contact doesnt mean ure not getting any light to start off the tanning process...

didnt sit out in sun directly once last yr and still got brown...

Mambo, Isn't factor 8 a bit "low" :? specially if you have pale skin. I'm using 15 and then go down to 12, I'm pale but as hispanic I don't get red, and with those factors I get a really nice tan all summer long. 8)

Yes agree with this one!
I think it has something to do with wind and the kind of sand of the beaches, but Formentera tan lasts for weeks 8)

That's what I do, and my tan seems to last a lot longer then when I used to use factor 5

Use a pre-tanner before you go on holiday like Decleor's. It gets your skin ready for the sun so you tan more easilly and don't burn. It's great stuff.

Then, on holiday, I swear by Ryman's 'once a day' suntan lotion. You only need to apply once a day (hence the name) and I've always got a really lovely golden tan when I've used it and not burnt. It's used by people who do desert runs too!

Don't forget to use loads of after-sun too to maintain the tan and get the moisture levels up.

Depending on how dark you already are, I wouldn't go lower than a spf 15, although the really low spf tanning lotions, like the Hawaiian Tropic ones are good for the end of your stay when your skins more used to the sun.

im really lucky with tanning - start on 6 for 2 days move onto factor 2 for a week then tanning oil for last few days ... never burnt or peeled yet 8)

I think now a days it's very overbold to use lower factor than 8 (and of course the tanning oil). I've only got burnt once and never peeled, even using the factor 2.
The risks of sunbathing it's not only getting red and burnt or peeled, the skin gets older quickly, it can appear spots and skin cancer.

Screen factor doesn't mean that you don't get tan. Screen factor means the time you can be exposed to the sun. For example, screen 2 means twice than what you can be without lotion.

fair point dont want to end up looking like a potato in 15 years time... :?

would that be a baked, boiled, chipped?? or even a kettle chip??

ha!!

basically if u spend more than 20 mins in the sun, ur gonna catch it!!! so be careful, especially when, u may have ingested certain stuff which may distract u from feelin burny!!

u know ur own skin, just use plenty of lotion if ur in the sun for a prolonged time, and re-apply, especially if ur sweaty (god i sound like my mum)

for how not to do it, just go to an 18-30 hotel and spot the young, pale skinned fools, roasting away, knocking back aftershocks at 1.30 in the afternoon!!!!

fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on a serious not from me!! if i wasnt there long i would go on the sunbeds at home for a week before you go then once your there have a day in the sun constantly to top up what you already have
