This week saw the debut of The Other Tribe and Bastille at Ibiza Rocks before they head to the Glastonbury festival. Busiest night of the season so far and with the hotel fully booked.

Something fresh and different to start the evening with the Bristol collective The Other Tribe and their indefinable melting pot of genres, tribal gear and painted faces.

Even if we only had the chance to listen some songs online, as they don't have any album out yet, we were curious to see them after reading so many raving reviews. They gave us a good taste of what we can expect from their debut album, including "We Should Be Dancing", "You & The Machine" or the huge and adictive single "Skirts". Impossible not to dance to their unique fusion of dance music and tribal percussion!

We loved every minute and we look forward to hear more from them.

Bastille first began as Dan Smith's solo project but later mutated into a band. Their first album Bad Blood, released last march, debuted at number one in the UK.

The London group kicked off with the catchy melancholic anthem "Bad Blood". A big percentage of what was played came from their highly successful debut album (like "Overjoyed", "Laura Palmer", "Icarus" or "Things We Lost In The Fire") but they also included some b-sides and covers (their repertoire also spans various singles and a selection of covers released on two download-only albums) like "What Would You Do?" (City High) or "The Rhythm Of The Night" (Corona), which absolutely everyone knew and sang with smiles on their faces. The frontman took people by surprise when he left the rest of the band and climbed the wall at the right, where the stage used to be, to perform "Flaws". The popular "Pompeii" was the grand finale with the crowd bursting into deafening chants!

To my surprise, they sound as good live as they do on CD: Dan's flawless angelic voice, the live arrangements, the backing vocals... everything sounded superb. An absolutely brilliant band live.

Afterwards straight to Ibiza Rocks House where we had the chance to have a chat with the Bastille boys and where Andy Boilerhouse and Andy Carroll kept things going with all kinds of good music (from The Yardbirds to Plan B!) till they kicked us out after George Thorogood & The Destroyers' "Can't Stop Lovin". Top night as usual.

Since debuting at Rocks last year, Bastille went on to be the biggest selling new British act of 2013, with platinum-selling debut album Bad Blood topping the charts and infectious single Pompeii becoming the second most streamed song of the year (just behind Daft Punk’s Get Lucky). After smashing it stateside then being nominated for 4 x Brit Awards back on home turf, Bastille have officially been crowned British Breakthrough of the year.

Bastille’s Dan Smith said: We can’t wait to play Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks again. The gigs were both loads of fun last summer so we’re really happy to have been asked back this year.”
