Around Ibiza on a Budget

Just back after another fantastic week in Ibiza. Arrived home yesterday after a technical issue with the plane and a 2 hour delay on the tarmac we said goodbye once again to Ibiza. The guy next to me was in tears. Leaving Ibiza was just as emotional as landing for many. Spent 7 nights this time and with a very tight budget, so I had no big plans. Spending budget was only 390 euros which had to last 7 nights. Just wanted to get around and see the island this time. Went to a few restaurants and bars and even had enough for Pacha. It was a last minute decision to go this summer, so I only managed to get a single room at two different hotels (one in San An - the other in Es Canar) with a single night at each hotel, and I just stayed awake for the other 5 nights. (Not recommended as I was hallucinating and hearing voices by the end of it.) It's Ibiza after all - who wants to sleep!

With shower and locker facilities in PDB, I was ready to explore the island.

One thing I learned is that San Antonio and Ibiza town and everything south from there is the real party spirit of Ibiza. When I explored the north side of the island e.g. Es Canar, San Miguel etc I found that a great majority of the people were families who were there to relax. I was still pretty hyper when I left the south to explore the north, and it felt strange to experience the quiet side of Ibiza. I tend to have a permanent smile no matter what mood I'm in, and I noticed a lot of people up in the north half were looking at me rather oddly as if to say "Why is he smiling?" I said to myself - You're in Ibiza, that's reason enough! Maybe it was the lack of sleep that made me edgy but I noticed the north side seemed to appeal more to the upper middle classes. o_O When I returned to San Antonio I felt so comfortable. :cool: I was back in my own territory again, except this time it was swarming with Italians (hundreds of Italians) who were harassing and stalking English girls. A couple were so fed up on the bus that they got off early and decided to walk the rest of the way to the club. Good thing I'm a guy. Imagine hundreds of Italian girls chasing English guys around San Antonio! ;) I met the same guy who mugged me last year and other dodgy characters in San Antonio so the level of crime is the same (perhaps worse). The north side does have fantastic views, but I just found the company I was in less appealing. It is true what they say, the island does appeal to various classes, I just hope one class doesn't push the other one out, or keep them bottled up in San Antonio.

Viva Ibiza
Here's to the next time.

interesting post that, I certainly wouldn't have wanted to stay awake for so many nights though!

while this statement might be true, if you take out the word 'party', for lots of people here you should then replace 'south' with 'north'.

Wholly agree with this statement although maybes its an age thing, San An and PDB may be considered as the 'party' areas but the real spirit of Ibiza is anywhere but these resorts (IMO of course). I would never consider resorts such as Es Canar or San Miguel (assume you mean peurto de San miguel) as snobbish either but agree they are more family orientated rather than 18-30 english resorts

I'm trying to work out day 3 into day 2, where you stowed your bags?

I carried my bag with me most of the time. Went to a storage locker in PDB (10 euros for 24 hour storage). Had essential supplies and spare clothes, and bought clean clothes when needed. T-shirts only 4 euros in shops. Spent about 85 euros on buses alone. Wonder how much taxis would have been! Spoke to a taxi driver and he said it was 30 euros from Cala Comte to San Antonio. Bus was about 4 euros.

1, I always thought you were a yank :eek::D
2, you're a f***ing mad head for staying up most of the week :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
3, as much as I love Ibiza I'd never go on the budget and arrangements you've set yourself that's some next level shit :spank:
4, fair play, I always think everything in Ibiza has been done but I think you found a mould to break o_O:D:D:D

:lol::lol::lol:

These ibiza on a budget posts are the absolute best. 7 nights, and just 2 nights in hotels.

Mate that is some effort :lol:

I thought kimagy did well on 2 nights in a car but 2 nights out of 7 is savage, bet you had the twitches and flashing lights as you tried to sleep for days! My sides are splitting :lol::lol:

Thing is people do want to go on holiday sometimes for peace and quiet (don't get me wrong I love a good old knees up with the best of them).

You might have been a bit para after a lack of sleep...:confused:

Top marks though for travelling yourself and the way you did it.

Kinda scary though. Day and night becomes one as your body adjusts without sleep. I was walking down empty streets in San Antonio but I was hallucinating people in black walking towards me and talking over each other. Skip to 0:30 and 1:07 in this music video - Pretty far out stuff!

5 days no sleep is crazy, and to still have the motivation to bus it back and fourth. Well played.

Puts me to shame!

Out of interest - what was you doing while you were in Ibiza town at night?

Went to the harbour wall in Ibiza town around 3am and sat up there and waited until sunrise each time. One night was embarrassing as there were couples having 'special relations' in the dark to my left and right. I think they were paid escort girls. One girl was from London and was quite vocal about her career and was vocal afterwards. :eek:

Took some fantastic pictures (of the sunrise).

Had a long sleep and I'm back to normal form. Realize now how edgy the lack of sleep made me. Took plenty of video footage of the north side and realize now (not in a semi-conscious state) that it is incredibly beautiful. Last week felt like one long day. I saw the sunrise, sunset, and the bright full moon so many times that it has all merged into one. I realize now how dangerous it was to explore the island in that heat without any sleep for 5 nights. Tried sleeping on the beaches but they were so crowded. I just kept walking and walking until the beach turned to rocks and it was impossible to sit down with any comfort on the rocks and get some sleep. I ended up dozing on the buses and missed my stop quite a few times. Familiar buildings in Ibiza town were recently demolished and I lost my sense of direction for a bit. Thankfully I brought my compass with me. Handy thing to have in Ibiza. :)
